1. He doesn't want to over exert himself and risk injury. If he's not on the court they have no chance to win (and it will take him longer to get the scoring record
)2. He's the best scorer on the team right now so he needs to save energy for offense. This is why a lot of the best scorers won't guard the other teams best players. This is almost always a coaches decision.
If day to Davis was healthy it wouldn't be so bad and Bron would be able to rest on offense sometimes and spend more energy on defense. This team doesn't really have any good defenders besides him.
