peon here, what exactly did/does the Boule even do in 2021?
Just a large network, kind of how its always been.
Makes getting into politics easier, getting into law firms and consulting easier, and especially international business.
They also do a lot of scholarships and local civic things - along with the other fraternities/sororities/social clubs.

They also apply light pressure for certain policies to go through - things on Black healthcare, "diversity initiatives," and even with police brutality cases.

....
You can’t be embarrassing the Boule by debating with Umar ...

:mjgrin::ufdup:

But RIP to him and condolences to his family.

Not at all. He's a part of the Black bourgeoisie and wants to pass down certain mannerisms, traits, and group cultural understandings to his children.
It's not "bowing down to White supremacy" so much as it is participating in petit-bourgeois activities.

It's just a group of wealthy Black people :gucci:
Where do y'all get these ideas from?
"keeping the blood pure" is common Boule expression about not procreating with a darker person than yourself, or any person who is truly black.

There's an anti-black, and downright eugenicist underbelly to black burgoise class that's been there since it's inception.

THAT is the part you are not talking about or pretending to ignore.

Brown paper bag test, Blue Vein Society, Jack n Jill, nose contouring surgery, never going outside without a sun hat (lest you get darker),"good hair"... All common tropes of the black burgoise class.

But let's celebrate a c00n and talk shyt about real revolutionaries:unimpressed:

No, it isn't.

You're a couple of generations too late with your "revelations," colorism is no longer predominant in Sigma Pi Phi, Jack & Jill, the Divine 9, the Girlfriends/Links, etc.

Please don't pretend you know anything about this when you don't, Our Kind of People is *at least* 30 years out of date - as much as I love the book.

And when have I ever talked shyt about "real revolutionaries?"

This is a clown post about a man whose body isn't even cold yet.
None of what you wrote is a reveal, and LOG was quite candid about all aspects of that group. The good, the bad, and the ugly.
In what world does Marcus Garvey's name even come up in a thread about a recently deceased attorney/writer?

As @boy has pointed out multiple times, Graham's views do not represent those of every member of that social circle. Not anymore than your views speak for any group that you identify as.
Graham was just the literary public face of his social circle. Others from those groups have publicly called him out over the years for various public comments.

I watched this with the woman I was with at the time. Wasn't sure and still not aware of whether this was based on actual events, but gave it a go based on LW being in it. She was great, the chick from Mo Betta was terrible, and I snoozed through the Halle storyline.
Actually gonna look through the film section of the forum to see if there's a discussion.
The Whitfield character's story and her relationship with her mother & daughters was interesting.

I forgot that this series came out, and was probably the mainstream's first glance into the world of that circle. Was this out before The Inkwell?

Yeah, it was probably the only movie that has come out that had a close enough depiction of the black elite.

However, I thought in many instances it was buffoonery wrapped in a nice slick bow. Lots of moments where you're like wtf? :mindblown:

Grandma needed her ass beat on multiple occasions.

Yep.

Coli celebrating this horse shyt and shytting on Marcus Garvey :francis:

Lawrence Graham Otis even had his nose straightened surgically if you've read his book.
All those corse generational mullatos masquerading as "black elites" when it was all about keeping their genes as white as possible :stopitslime:

Yall gonna die and not be allowed into the Boule heaven coz your soul couldn't pass the brown paper bag test :wow:

It's funny that you post The Wedding. It's one of the books written by Dorothy West.

Dorothy West was the Queen of black Martha's Vineyard and the woman at the top of the Vineyard social pyramid. Everybody paid homage to her when they came to the Island.

This is outdated bro and it wasn't a practice that was consistent in every city.

@IllmaticDelta made a good post addressing it here:

No it's not.....the only element that gets hung up on that is some Louisiana Creoles:skip:

History has proven this to be false because if you go back and check outside of a smaller amount light skins who mixed with other light skins, most lighter skinned types had much darker partners

this could only make sense if all that black elite were fair skinned, and we know this ain't true

I think it was Professor Griff or someone else back in the day who claimed the Boule were basically the Prince Hall Freemasons that did the dirty work of the Illuminati to control the Black population. It just went on from there...
