Just pick the right firm or, even better, go in-house.

its not that easy depending where ur at

thats kinda like tellin someone, oh its easy to get rich, jus make a million dollars

iono what state ya'll at, but in CA its crazy saturated with lawyers

in general too, its jus a shytty industry. most firms are toxic environments, ran by old white dudes for partners. i guess u can slave away 10 years of your life being someones bytch to become the token minority partner (prolly not even equity partner)

from my exp, ppl with the best work/life balance and job happiness are ppl in crim law (DA's and PD's), tech industry (patent lawyers) or like the poster above me said in-house.

gettin in house isn't easy tho, typically those guys come wid like 3-5 years of big law exp b4 they can even make that transition

good luck to you all, if anyone has specific Q's feel free to PM me.

i got 5+ years of practice, and am in the LA area

Trust, I get it. I'm just trying to say that people shouldn't feel like they made the wrong choice simply because they aren't happy where they're at. I've worked at three different spots since graduating almost 10 years ago. First firm was a place with no billable requirement...we had to bill, but as long as you carried your weight, the partners didn't make hours billed the end all, be all.

My second firm did do that, and I hated it (they couldn't care less how good my work was...they just wanted a minimum of 40 hours a week billed). It was a dead-end job, but it paid the bills.

I finally quit after a couple years and focused on trying to find a setup like my first job. Strangely enough, the experience I got in the shytty firm made me a perfect choice for a job opportunity in-house.

It's not easy and it takes some luck, but one job shouldn't dictate someone's experience in the profession.

Fr

If u think school is ruff, wait til y'all practice

Sorry to be a Debbie downer, but I been practicing for a min now, and it doesn't get better for most

I didn't find the first semester stressful at all. Even finals was a breeze. Either people exagerrate or I'm just built for this.

Got accepted into my backup school with a partial scholarship (about 80% tuition). Still waiting to hear back from the others but it feels good to have an option.
