Got offered a new job :ehh:
Big pay raise but not sure if I want to leave the work I'm doing now - team is wonderful and my projects are exactly where I want them to be :wow::mjcry:
I swear I get hit up at least 2-3 times a week from firms trying to poach. I’m fine where I’m at, but still always gotta keep eyes and ears open.

How do you guys feel about these Diversity and Inclusion positions? The compensation I've seen for some of these positions are crazy.

Yeah I’m in a Black In House Counsel GroupMe where they talk about that a lot, and it’s a pretty good gig if you can get it. They get PAID.

My boys brother in law works for an NFL team in one of these diversity roles and he's not feeling it at all, even though the money is solid. He's on some powerless token negro tip, and basically does nothing at work.

But when I see places offering up $125k for spots and the requirements are super lax, it got me looking like :whoo:

I’ll see if I can go back in the group chat to find it, but I think I remember them posting some gigs paying $500K or more. And yeah they said how conflicting it may feel when they don’t see a real result from their work and it’s more of a token/box checking gig. But for that pay, shyt most would take it.

I did it from ‘18-‘early 2020 right before COVID struck. It’s the most thankless of thankless jobs. If you’re in it for the long-term, you can make bank. Most folks I seen that did it quit just before they hit the wall and went into consulting which is where the $$$ truly is. Wages will recede soon imo but sistas are killing it in those positions. Like a 2/3s of DEI directors are women and about half of those are Black and other minorities.

Plus, if you’re like me and got into it to jumpstart real change, you’ll be highly disappointed, but if you’re a grifting mf, you can crush it on the speaking and book circuit. For all the conferences I went to, none of these folks ever spoke of nor showed the tangible results they help institute in their own organizations. Just a bunch of word salad. But if any of y’all decide to get into it, DO YOUR DUE DILIGENCE on who’s leading the organization or sitting on the board. Also ask to see their last 3-5 years of employee work climate survey results. That shyt will tell you everything you need to know about a company. If they don’t have any or they make excuses as far as why they don’t have recent ones, avoid them mf’s. They’re hiding something.

Interesting thread. I’m flirting with the idea of attending a non ABA online law school. I have no intention of practicing law, but since the degree is cheap and I can study in my own time, I might as well get the knowledge and another degree.

Sounds like a waste of money and time
Depends on how you look at it. I’ve spoken to a few people who use JDs to teach. I can also do consulting if I want.
It’s only $15k for four years for a JD. I can also pay $8k for 4 years, but that would require taking the California baby bar.
Ive never been too bothered about where I get my degrees from, and it has never hindered me from getting good opportunities. I completeled my MBA at WGU in under 5 months. Paid $3500.

Nobody will take you as seriously getting an online jd from a non aba accredited law school. Thats basically university of phoenix status. You will not compete in the job market vs someone who went to an ABA school

Also, law school doesnt teach you how to be a lawyer..

Like I said, I have no intention on practicing law, I just want the knowledge, and there is no evidence to prove that degrees from Phoenix are of no use in the job market.

Also, it depends on career goals. There are many attorneys living and working in states that allow them to read the law (like what Kim K is doing) take the baby/regular bar, and be competitive in the job market. If someone can afford to spend $200k+ on a law degree, good luck to them, but I always look for a cheaper alternative.

1. Again, law school doesn’t teach you how to be a lawyer or even the law. Its an archaic system that has you reading old famous common law case examples along with socratic method style teaching. Law school helps you THINK like a lawyer, thats about it. And quality of school/faculty (e.g, non aba) plays a factor. Do you have any paralegal or clerking experience? Have you actually worked on any cases, read case law and applied them to real-world facts? Drafted memos? Did research? Kim K is actually doing this.

Some of ya’ll have this weird view about law school, like it teaches you how to be a lawyer or gives you this huge insight into the law. Being a LAWYER teaches you the law. And if you’re going to go the jd preferred route, don’t take shortcuts and actually apply to an aba accredited school that has a decent employer pipeline for jobs

2. The University of Phoenix is under scrutiny by the ftc, as we speak. Worthwhile employers do not respect schools of this ilk, along with non aba accredited law schools. Again, you’re competing against someone that would have gone to one of 100+ law schools that are aba accredited. Why would they choose you over them? University of Phoenix president resigns suddenly (and quietly) amid federal inquiry

3. I’m a whole lawyer and have been practicing the last 3 years in “big law”. I’m trying to give you advice but for some reason, you think you know more than an actual practicing lawyer who went to a top law school. I’m trying to save you time and money but you’re trying to take a shortcut.

4. You’re seriously comparing Kim K’s situation to yours? Kim K being Kim K will open up plenty of doors. Kim K is also under an apprenticeship essentially, working under a few lawyer mentors. She didnt even enroll in any type of law school. California has all types of loopholes to take the bar without going to law school. Hence why the passage rate is so low (people from non aba schools/apprenticeships taking the bar and failing countless times).
