It pisses me off when I see all these kids from Howard getting big law positions. I'm competing against some of the most elite students in the country, but they get hired over me because they have better GPA's.

I'm considering Law School but I don't know where to start. For context I have a Bachelors of English from Morehouse and student debt. I am 26yrs old I make 45K in NYC and I live in the hood. I've been doing non profit work since I graduated and I'm sick of it. I know this site is all about 6 figures and Certs but I really despise math and I always did well with reasoning and comprehension (hence my degree). What I was not aware of however was that an English Degree is damn near pointless (My family thought me going to Morehouse and just getting a degree would be enough.) No, I do not want to be a teacher. My undergrad gpa was pretty abysmal (2.5) The thing is, seeing black gentrifies moving into NY and Brooklyn living in better places now then my whole childhood is striking a nerve. I want money, Money separates the halves from the have not's and I like nice things. I currently don't have any kids. My (passion) was Sports Journalism but I did not take the proper steps as far as securing internships in school etc to have a career currently.

I am damn near running out of options because I feel like I damn near wasted my time and life and that I should have or should just get a trade. Do you think law would be good for me?

If you really want to pursue do it. Don’t just do it bc you’re frustrated. Law school is hard, being a lawyer is heard, you have to understand that. And once you commit a lot of ppl feel obligated to complete it due to the debt they incur.

You seem like a good fit for the Cleo program. With that gpa you’re going to need to crush the lsat. They’ll help you. Tons of morehouse grads have gone through the program. CLEO, Inc: Pre-Law Programs, Law school Admissions, LSAT Students ASAP | CLEO

They’ll help you get into a good law school

Law school is not a good way to become rich.

Instead it’s a very good way to be unemployed and debt burdened.

I suggest you work as a paralegal or at a law firm first to see if that’s really something you want to do. Your gpa will be a problem when you apply also though it can be somewhat offset by a very high LSAT score

Don't go to law school just because you have no other options for a career. Don't think graduating from law school is a get rich quick option.

Go to law school if you really want to pursue a career in law/government. While many lawyers make some fukking bank (the general counsel for Google that just resigned made $47 milli last year  ) it is not like that for everyone. You're better off going into law because that is the career that you want, and not because you will make a lot of money in that career. There are public defenders making the same amount of money you are now.

What were you (not) doing to get such a low gpa with an English degree?

The Gen Ed classes believe it or not killed me. My high school wasn't the greatest so I coasted to graduation. Freshmen year I didn''t have the greatest start and it took a tole. When I took College Algebra etc everyone was saying they took it already and I was sitting there looking crazy. Even classes like music and Spanish were kind of hard. In my major classes I never got below a B though.

They didn’t teach u any specialized skills in English? Like how to edit or professionally write? Did you learn any skills? You could write blogs n shyt.

I don’t know shyt about law school, but if you didn’t do too great in undergrad, what would you do to change that for law school?

Don’t go into 100k+ debt, plus your current debt for law school.

Have you ever thought about getting certs?
