That hat better give me head or be made of Egyptian Cotton for that price
Manufacturing shoes on a somewhat large scale has to be pretty costly. They'll have to be inexpensive to compete especially considering their designs so far. Tees and hats are easy to do because they're working with generic blanks most likely.
It's also worth noting that the items on there store seem to be a good bit cheaper than what's been reported, though still above what most streetwear companies charge, let alone sportswear companies. The fact that they've priced this the way they have makes it hard to believe it'll have the impact he thinks it will.
Not exactly the words I'd use, but exactly my sentiment.ridiculous prices aside, him being an obnoxious fukkboy aside, this is not a business move that should be shytted on
more players need to do the same thing instead of being puppets to trump supporting ceo's
A dope design and the expansion of the brand can make it attainable to charge high prices and still have demand.
Say Lonzo is ROTY next year and his name is buzzing. Let's also get hot designer to create a cool ass looking shoe that he rocks all year. That right there is gonna give you opportunity to make a splash at least as a niche $300 ish shoe. You get some investors involved to fully capitalize the business so it can handle marketing, quality control, engineering, distribution, so that you can scale up, and maybe you can get into the mass market at a lower price.
It's already been done once before with Pat Ewing (I don't know how much of the company he owns but it's listed as "his" company) and sold a decent amount of shoes. Had Ice Cube giving them pub on "Steady Mobbin". So, this is something that is attainable. I was actually hoping somebody like LeBron or Russ would take the risk after contracts ended, but Lebron just signed the lifetime deal, and Russ is still on the deal with Jordan. But they would be giving up a lot of guaranteed money to run a shoe business that they may not want to deal with. So Lavar stepping up and starting something here is great, because his sons can focus on basketball.

"Put on my white Ewings." These are that bad tbh.
I agree with you on the designer aspect, problem is, dad seems like the type to come in with his own drawings and just tell the designer to clean it up a bit, but don't change anything.
What you're saying is possible, but I haven't seen anything yet that would make me think that's realistic. A quality designer would first have to want to work with the brand, judging from what's available so far BBB haven't placed much emphasis on design. That's not to say they can't attract talent but it's not going to be BBB x Riccardo Tisci or Jerry Lorenzo $300 basketball shoe. There shoe would need to be a value proposition for consumers. With the line between streetwear and high end fashion being blurred there's less market for high end athletic wear. Bron can barely push a $200 shoe.
