We were able to afford a very expensive home in our budget by cutting out excess eating expenses.

Even with prices being high at grocery store it’s still cheaper than DoorDash in my opinion.
A week worth of groceries for the both of us is around $100 or less.
I go to farmers markets for veggies. $20 worth will get you lettuce, cabbage, tomatoes, cucumber, an assload of onions and potatoes, greens, spinach, broccoli, green beans, peppers. The market I go to will give you a basket and let you pick and choose your own veggies for really cheap.

We have huge bags of rice/grits/flour/spices at the crib.
Only things I get at the grocery store are meats, cheeses and specialty items if I wanna make desserts.

Eggs $7, bacon $4, sausage $3, pot roast $10, chicken $4, smoked sausage $5, ribs , fish, cheese, milk/cream run me around $60.

it really depends. when u have more than one person in the house, eating out is wildly expensive. for one person, it's not that crazy.

but a family cannot go out constantly and come out ahead of cooking entire meals at the crib.

People are fake poor out here. Worried about inflation and a recession but will spend an extra 30 percent on every meal so they don't have to leave their house...
Don't get me started with fukking doordash. The fact that people allow companies like this to make a killing shows you where peoples priorities are. I have coworkers that have claimed impoverished at different points, but have no problem spending $30 to get Mcdonalds doordash :wtf:

People paying a premium on subpar fast food tells you what time it really is.

Some people eat out due to time constraints.
I made this chili with sautéed onions, green peppers, and celery in 20 minutes

I'm sure I do too, I live alone, single, do not have any desire to cook or pretend to embrace it, I'm always out too, so the idea of coming home and cooking a meal is pretty unattractive to me. My life isn't very domestic oriented.

Points in my favor, if I spend more at the grocery store, I won't eat it, and it will end up thrown out, I love food, but I defer to experts/professionals, they make better food, and it's more interesting, it makes it like something I enjoy, rather than some bullshyt meal, I don't want to cook, and don't really want to eat.
Cooking is the best when single. I had leftovers for like 3-4 days :mjlol:

Knowing how to cook is so easy though.

Made a big pot of banging curry chicken last week.
Then Vietnamese roasted chicken thighs with lemon pepper salmon on Sunday.

Not saying I should have a cookbook or anything but cooking isn't hard and you save time and money when you do it in bigger portions.

No excuses.
how do suggest beginners learn how to cook?

I like how people are denouncing inflation in this thread. You have became the people you complain about. If business can't get money, they can't pay the people who work there. :umad: and that would mean a lot of y'all be out of job.

hahah sometimes I have a few! but cooking for me is the last thing i want to do with them usually. I would never really ask. It does take effort to cook and cook something that I will be interested in eating, and the opportunity cost, the time spent cooking. I'll eat a taco spot and spend $20, on a Wednesday or spend $30 and get stuff for two meals. I'll eat at a nice spot once a week or so, $100 and up.

I was never home enough to learn there as a kid, and never patient enough to learn as an adult. I used to try, buy fresh salmon, and turkey burgers, but like I was saying, I don't want to eat 4 turkey burgers in a week. I don't want my spot smelling like fish either, or having to clean up.

I would never deny I have no tolerance for anything domestic. I would like to just live in a luxury hotel, even a small 450 sq. room. That's all I need. No cleaning, no cooking, no laundry.

I cook maybe 3-4 times a week. always have leftover that I typically eat for breakfast or lunch.

to cut down on grocery cost, I get the majority of my food at aldi.

I get my bulk stuff like beef, chicken, seafood, shrimp, lemonade and water at costco.

getting the meat in bulk is significantly cheaper. and costco sells chicken and beef in individual vacuum sealed packages in bundles of 6. I take one out and throw the rest in the freezer as it will last for a very long time given they are all sealed.

How do suggest beginners learn how to cook?

Appliances, appliances, appliances!

My husband and I both cook but it’s rarely an issue because we rely HEAVILY on appliances.

Here’s the top 5 appliances I use the most

1.) Crockpot
Season and sear meat on both sides and then put in veggies, garlic, seasonings, broth in the crockpot and go.

Dump and go recipes are my jam.
Stewed chicken
Pot roast
Beef stew
Smothered pork chops

2.) Pot with lid-2 cups of water to one cup rice and a lil oil on boil. Add rice and turn down to low. Cover and come back to a pot of cooked rice.

3.) Cast Iron skillet- You can cook anything in it. Breakfast, dinner, dessert.

4.) Cookie sheet-Line it with foil, season your meat and spray it with oil. Put your veggies on there and bake it.
5.) Air fryer- spray a lil oil, add meat and veggies and turn it on. Cook until crispy.

Easy ideas:

Oven:
Smoked sausage and veggies (red potatoes/onions/peppers/asparagus/mushrooms) Put it on a cookie sheet, season your veggies and pop em in the oven for like 30 mins on 375. Done!

Cast iron skillet:
Go to the Asian supermarkets. They have meats already cut AND marinated. All you have to do is add oil to a pan and sauté it for a few minutes. Put it over some rice and microwave a bag of veggies.

Crockpot:
Here are 30 dump and go crockpot recipes.
