I'm liking RJ more and more. Got that dog/mamba mentality :wow:

Great video and agreed with a lot of what he said. Even the Zion longevity part that i feel like we as a fan base were purposefully sweeping under the rug in our hopes for the number 1 pick. My only disagreements were that he downplayed Zions finesse to prop up RJs. There is a ton of Finesse in Zions game. I actually wanted to see more finesse from RJ. He does a lot of the same bully tactics that Zion does and I’m worried that it won’t be as effective at the next level. This could just be a by product of “they can’t stop me doing this so why should i stop doing it” however.

Dude also overplayed how much RJ improved his tunnel vision and passing. While it’s true he did improve on those fronts as the season went along, there were ALOT of “young Westbrook” assists in his game. Something I’ve hated about Westbrook is that it felt like he’d make his decision on whether to pass or try to score regardless of what the defense was doing and it would lead to a lot of passes when he had open lanes. Or forcing shots when he had open guys. It’s not about their feel.

That mamba mentality shyt is real tho. The super small part of me of that kinda doesn’t want to sign a free agent and just keep rocking with these young guys would love to see what RJ would bring to this team.

He takes a lot of shots where statistically he’s not the best shooter.

He’s young as hell (not even 19) so you you got to wonder if it’s just him being stubborn/young.
:patrice:

Dude just takes a lot of shots. It drove some duke fans (ME) CRAZY. Too many games RJ would have more shot makes than Zion had attempts. RJ stat line would be 12/27 while Zions would be 10/12 and they’d both have the same amount of points. Again, the kid was good, but we’ve never seen Coach K give a player that long a leash in our lives. It made no sense why the ball didn’t go through Zion more.

Hearing a lot of good things about RJ....with supporting evidence.

If this keeps up we may end up with Morant and be upset about it.
I was just about to post this exact same message. Spooky.

Zion has the body of a godly create-a-player.

RJ has the body of a grown man.

Zion has freakish ability that stands out considerably against his peers.

RJ's movements, regardless of shot quality, looks so confident and smooth. Compare him to how clumsy and unbalanced the young KP and Knox looks.(Sometimes, they look they will just snap in half at times.)

Zion is a must draft at #1.

RJ, if we forget that Wiggins stigma, does not seem like a question mark to me.

Zion WILL injury himself. (Not wishing that on him at all. I want that kid to SHINE.)

RJ looks solid and durable to me.

Zion has that drive and the love of the game that'll make him go 110% every game, starting in summer league.

RJ, if Fizdale provides that sauce, will see a real compatibility with Fiz's "be a dog" encouragement.

-------------------

Brehs... I don't want another Knox - in that I don't want a young kid who is humble, soft spoken and looking to not ruffle feathers.

I want a cocky young prospect, because of his competitive spirit, would become instant on court friends with theikes of DSJ.

Please show me something about Reddish, Culver, Garland, Bol Bol that details the intangibles that aren't apparent on the scoreboard.

Nicely put.

Yes....about Zion and his health. Unless he has extra cushion in his joints, the bunjee-jumping is just not sustainable. I hope he is the exception. I also hope he continues to prove he has a well-rounded game. He is truly an anomaly.

Culver's another work horse, here are a couple of stories about him with key bits quoted.
https://nypost.com/2019/04/07/how-j...ng-shot-recruit-became-its-star-unbelievable/

He played well as a complementary piece as a freshman, averaging 11.2 points and 4.8 rebounds, but when Texas Tech’s season ended in an Elite Eight loss to eventual national champion Villanova a year ago, the real work began. Culver was in the gym working out that night. The next day, he met with the coaching staff, who laid out its plans for him to be the team’s No. 1 option this season. They broke down what he needed to do to get better, and spent hours in the offseason watching film, of himself, of college and NBA stars, and looked at ways for him to become a well-rounded star.

“It was a terrible feeling losing, getting close to the Final Four,” he said. “That’s what drove me all summer.”

Texas Tech's Jarrett Culver is 'addicted to the game' | NBA.com
“A lot of times, a player will tell you he’s going to do something, and that doesn’t happen. In the recruiting process, everything Jarrett told us he would do in his part of the bargain, he did it 100 percent.”

Once Culver, at about 6-foot-6 and 170 pounds, showed up on campus, Beard realized exactly what he had. The word Beard and his coaching staff use to explain devotion to the game is “addicted.” Culver was hooked, and he would do anything within reason to get better.

“When talent intersects love of the game, special things happen,” Beard says. “And when you also have that intersection in the neighborhood of character and discipline … Jarrett worked on his craft. He came in here as a guy who could score. Two years later, he leaves as one of the best defensive players in college basketball. A guy who could beat you with the pass. He’s a great pick-and-roll player, can score in the post with his back to the basket. He’s improved as a 3-point shooter, a free-throw shooter. He’s worked at his craft.”

Culver’s hard work was on display this season. As a freshman, he apprenticed under Tech’s leading scorer Keenan Evans and played on near equal footing with Zhaire Smith, another special talent who left after his only season and became a first-round NBA Draft pick. This season, without Evans and Smith, Culver -- playing at a more robust 200 pounds thanks to hours in the weight room -- was the man.

And his performance against Duke early on was a real eye opener to me. No signs of backing down

He might be another Barkley. Built for the high-flying theatrics despite the girth.
