I think Knox will grow so much from Fiz...

But if Timmy is any indication... Shot selection development will be severely stunted.

The thing is... Knox's shooting mechanics appear light years ahead of Timmy so, his skill set might trend toward allstar regardless of development.

The kid is spooky smooth.:wow:

The Knicks were depleted and on a back to back but it still feels particularly painful to get smacked around by the worst team in the league. The Suns are in many ways, a mirror image of the Knicks right now so to get blown out by them is biting. Compounding matters is that the Knicks are just playing terrible defense right now. I mentioned being worried about the zone defense on my KFS recap yesterday and it looked even worse last night. Compound that with the pick and roll defense being one of the most consistently awful aspects of the Knicks defense and the Suns might as well be the Globetrotters. It's easy to make that PnR D all about Kanter too, because of the tweet and because he is legitimately weak there. But last night was a team effort to be awful and we shouldn't let Kanter bailout the other guys. The weakside stands out almost as often as our center and that's a problem multiple players seem to have. Yuck!

Mudiay: The bright spot of the night was Emmanual Mudiay's effort. This was a performance I'd been waiting for not in terms of scoring but playmaking. Mudiay was in his bag with some beautiful no-look passes and bounces at crazy angles too. The 6 assist tally is hiding just how good he was moving the rock. I have to confess, the jumper's still ugly as sin to me, but it's been falling and I respect it now. 32 points, 6 assists and 6 boards from Mud on 12/21 shooting; he's decisive in the lane and the shot's falling. My one complaint for this dude is to stop trying to get foul calls on jump shots. It's bizarre, you have a point, but free throws on jumpers are hard to come by unless it's obvious.

Lee: Is that not a Courtney Lee performance for you? Just steady as she goes from start to finish. Lee didn't do anything above and beyond for the Knicks, but he was solid throughout the night and productive. He really does belong on a competitive team. 12 points, 4 boards and sharper movement all around.

Knox:
Kevin Knox looked poised for huge game in the first quarter. But when he came off of the bench for the first time, he started to pick up fouls and it kinda threw him off his rhythm. Knox dropped 17 and 5 on 6/16 shooting anyway, but it felt like more of a struggle after the first quarter. That's more compliment than complaint though. Knox in the open floor is something to behold, his jumper demands attention out to three and his first step doesn't look particularly explosive but he has a way of making it work to get him where he wants to be...he's 19...it's sick.

Vonleh: Feels like the quietest performance we've gotten from Vonleh this season. He's had tougher ones where it came down to foul trouble but this one was just a tough game. Vonleh labored to 3 points and 7 boards in 17 minutes with 3 TO's and I can't really say that I saw anything in particular to throw him off. Just an off night maybe.

Kanter: Enes Kanter isn't built to go up against teams as freakishly athletic as the Suns. He can get a workman-like on offense but he'll always be overwhelmed on defense. Here's the thing, if you've got Mitch then you can probably shield Kanter from the Booker/Ayton pick and roll but with Luke Kornet as the only other option...I'm giving the guy a break here because the mismatch was obvious and we didn't have much other choice. 13 points, 10 boards and 4 assists for Kanter in 28 minutes on a surprising 4/11 from the field. Everyone sees it, the zone isn't working; now it's up to Fiz to figure something out or make a change.

Burke: Trey Burke was up to 24 minutes in his second game but still hasn't hit any kind of rhythm or particularly fit into the chemistry of the rest of the Knicks. To be fair, even Lee needed a few games, but Burke was 2/9 for 4 points, 2 assists and 2 boards which is a rough look without defense to fall back on. He's getting enough touches to get into a rhythm, now the shots have to start falling.

Ntilikina: Speaking of defense, between the zone and some really tough finishes by TJ Warren and Devin Booker, Frank Ntilikina had an off night on defense himself. Frank was back and forth between PG and SG duties again, but he found some flow in that role when he paired with Mudiay (particularly in the second quarter). He was certainly aggressive with the ball although the results lagged behind the snap decisions. The quick, decisive movement was step one for Knox before he really popped; so I don't mind the inefficiency right now (especially since on most nights Frank will make it up with defense). 3/11 from the field, 2/6 from three, 9 points, 3 rebounds and 1 assist in 29 minutes from Frank.

Lance: Lance Thomas made a nice defensive play and dove for the ball early on which had me like "man...that's likeable Lance." Then Thomas went radio silent for the better part of his 20 minutes out there to my disappointment. Lance got 5 boards and missed all three of his attempts, including 2 good looks from three. He has to can those to maintain value. That's especially true when the zone kinda takes away from his biggest place of impact which is defense.

Hezonja: I was ready to give Mario Hezonja a completely glowing review but he ended his stretch out there with some really bad moments where he just didn't play help defense. That absolutely took away some enthusiasm from me over what was an otherwise really nice performance. Mario went 6/11 for 14 points and 5 boards in just 17 minutes; he was out there playing hungry and in constant motion. But that weakside help from him has to have a pulse or all the offense in the world won't make me look past it.

Kornet: Luke Kornet has swiftly taken over Ron Baker's spot as most likeable end of bench guy that the Garden will flip out for when he overachieves one in a blue. Kornet went 1/5 for 6 points, 3 boards, 2 assists and 2 TO's in 14 minutes. That's 5 attempts from a gigantic human being and all of them were three pointers. Kornet is moving lighter on his feet this season which an upgrade from jogging underwater to jogging on beach sand. It's an improvement that's getting him space to shoot but that's not gonna matter if he's just laying bricks for Mario to hit his head on (ba dum tss).

Fiz: It worked bizarrely game one, didn't kill you in game two but game three was enough for me to never want to see that zone again. I get that the Knicks have a lot of inexperienced defenders with a ton to learn but the personnel that could conceivably help these guys is back. That's Courtney Lee and Lance Thomas that I'm talking about. We had these guys out there with Frank and they were playing a zone defense at times, mitigating their best traits. Fiz had accomplished some really great developments in virtually everyone; hell, Mario showed progression last night and nobody was looking for it. But it seems like the defensive side of things has lagged well behind the offensive development. Maybe this will turn out like the DNP's though. I was highly critical of them but the results are undeniable. Perhaps he'll trot out too much 2-1-2 for a couple more games where my patience will be worn thin only to switch back man defense with the players looking transformed. I don't know how it works or why, something about an axe, but Fiz keeps proving me wrong...and I'm praying he pulls it off again with this defense.

Probably a troll but I’d do it. Also, i just remembered recently that Haralabob works for the Mavs now, so kinda lends credence to why Simmons has been floating this out there for almost a month now.

If Timmy really is going to be bad defensively as everyone seems to believe...
DSJ, Tim, and Doncic as a starting lineup...:francis:

Can that win be competitive?

Ain’t no one giving a first round pick for Tim:mjlol:

You have Tim score 20 something a night as a second/third option and he'll get interest from teams to the point they could put out a FRP. I didn't say he would get a lottery pick, but he does have FRP value.
