Exactly Herein lies the real problem. He's a Spidey-villain, from a crime family that hunts. There's not much there for him as a compelling movie, no matter what they tried to do.
Spidey's villains are only good up against him - at least to warrant solo movie treatment. The best they could've done was him hunting the others - Morbius, the Spidey-ladies, Venom, throwing in some others for good measure. But since no one likes the rest, it would've been the same result.

U could literally have the end of every one of the movies be the villain losing to spiderman and getting locked up in that supervillain prison and thats how they form the sinister 6

It was destined to fail right after the trailer dropped. I’m gonna check it out one day. It looks more interesting than Madam Web. Sony gotta get rid of these clueless people running the Spidey world.

I haven’t seen the last Venom movie, but they turned the character into more MCU “LOLZ” Bullshyt and dumbed down the character. That soured fans. Despite that, Venom is popular enough to get people to watch and they did.

Sony could have done what James Gunn is doing with DC. Have their adult Spider-Man in his own movies while the MCU continues with college Holland Spider-Man doing his thing. Or at least do Miles Morales in a live action. Hell, even Spider-Gwen.
