What ya have to remember is Wards pay is more than it should be. Hes getting overpaid. As a result of his deal, Roc Nation is losing $ by paying him more than the event and he himself is worth.

Ward's next contract will be interesting because his last one was so beneficial in his favor. He deserves credit for negotiating such a good deal, but people also need to realized RN lost money on every single Ward show. That was RN's own fault. I wouldn't be surprised if GGG's PPV's couldnt support the salary K2 owed GGG. If we believe the insider from another forum he said the holdup for the Jacob's fight was GGG being owed money by K2. The more I thought about it, I wouldn't doubt K2 was eating costs, banking on eventually negotiating a Canelo fight to bail them out.

Had Ward made $3 million I wouldn't blink an eye, but at $6.5 milly they have to be getting crazy money from elsewhere to cover that. Ward and Kov at 170k on buys have roughly $6 million in PPV revenue to split and Ward's salary is already more than that. Power to Ward...in this case I don't see how the math adds up after gate, sponsors, etc.

That said, I have been on here before saying I don't have much interest in how much a fighter makes. The business side is for the business of boxing, they need to hire competent people to take care of their interests and make sure they are fairly compensated. I can never fault a fighter for that.

Along with that RN needs to take care of themselves. They are a grown professional organization. I won't feel good or bad about any promoter making or losing money. The real take shouldnt be whether RN made or lost money, it is that Ward won the fight and won in negotiations.


Edit: While I may disagree with you in the financials of this fight, I will agree in the intent of their comments. There clearly is a reason why they are so vocal about Ward being paid more than the fights financials can generate...when they briefly gloss over many of TR's fights that lose money, including if I am not mistaken Arum having to pull hat tricks with Pacquiao fights. You can look no further than Dan having to shut down his chat because of thenumber of ignorant and racist comments coming in about Ward today. I am interested in seeing how TR's deal with ESPN works out. You are right in that you can't just follow the PBC game plan and expect us all to believe that it is financially beneficial now, but wasn't before.

I need more receipts.

In my opinion one of PBC's biggest obstacles was they had to subsidize the fight purses...something that Showtime and HBO do. These fights on HBO arenot making money for the promoter unless they get their network kickback. Putting Crawford, Lomachenko, and others isn't simply an easy money making opportunity when you don't have network subsidy. I want to see how TR expects to cover that difference.

I wouldn't believe in Fat Dan's estimate, fact is he was probably told that by Duva's folks, but there is no info to verify that. End of the day we'll see what Kovalev does, if he leaves Main EVents we will probably hear the real story
