I'm not cosigning MS going this route, I'm just saying I imagine most enthusiasts will have their system connected online 99.9% of the time.

What happens if Microsoft's network went down for a month like sony's did when they got hacked? People should just deal with not being able to play their consoles offline for a month?

The Passage of Time
Every single one of these leaks comes for a person who read the same document as we did that said "Always on always connected"

Each time they write a new story about it, it's just a different person referring to that same document. For one the document didn't say the connection was required, that's speculation about what "always on always connected" really means. For two it explicitly states the Kinect would be REQUIRED for the use of the system, why wouldn't they use the word REQUIRED when talking about the Internet connection if it would actually be required to play games.

I would believe you, but Kotaku stated in their article that this is being confirmed from 2 different sources and the info isn't derived from the white papers i.e. vgleaks.

The Next Xbox Will Require an Internet Connection To Start Games, Sources Say

Durango is the codename for the next-gen Xbox.

"If there isn't a connection, no games or apps can be started," the source continued. "If the connection is interrupted then after a period of time--currently three minutes, if I remember correctly--the game/app is suspended and the network troubleshooter started."

It also says that other sources confirmed that they haven't heard of a connection being needed for the console to function.

That said, a caution and a caveat: other sources familiar with the codenamed Durango console have told us that they are still unaware of any Microsoft plans regarding an online requirement.

Which anonymous source do you believe?

I see a lot of people :cape: in here lol it's hilarious. This sounds much worse than what Steam implements as I can play games fine without an internet connection but this sounds like it will outright usurp access to your paid game.

I don't understand how people are genuinely excited for this soon to be failure.

this don't matter brah shyt can still fuk up, i was just playing 2k13 the other day and that shyt basically demands an online connections in order to deal with your "VC" points or whatever, my shyt couldn't connect for whatever reason after doing a drill once and the entire game reset and i lost all my "VC" points. That's some stupid bullshyt :rudy: not to mention loading the game takes twice as long now because it loads off disk/harddrive, sends info to 2k server, recieves from 2k server, saves back to harddrive :rudy: fukk off that shyt is terrible.

if ANY of this console bullshyt is true, no used games, getting raped to connect online, can't play unless your online, etc. then STEAM and PC gaming will def just take over very easily next gen.

Not to sound like a dikk, but how often are you going to play a game without an active internet connection?

It's plenty of people in rural areas that don't play online but bought up xbox 360's...that will not happen this gen, if true

Shakes head

People like me I like my offline gaming

This is just ploy to try nd curtail piracy

I sometimes purposely don't sign in, so people wont be bugging me during my game.

Doubt this is true, but if so this is a terrible move for M$. How could any company be that stupid :rudy:
