here is an idea:
1. Stop talking race - start talking culture. Change Black (western/american) culture and you might have a chance at getting more in the gaming industry.

This piece is almost disgusting. I wanted to like it and agree with it, but I can't. Because this piece has really awful undertones suggesting that, for some inexplicable reason related to the color of one's skin, black people can bring something to the table that other races can't.

Companies will start including more black characters when they can make money from doing so. It's that simple. They have no obligation to be fair. Fair is not their business. Making a profit is their business.

The same goes for black oriented comics. Good luck making profitable content for a miniscule market.

This article is bulls***!......Give me a friggin break...Death was NOT the first punk rock band....maybe the only "black one" that is...but not the first. Obviously the writer did little to no research when writing this article.....Ever heard of MC5 or The Stooges ? (1964-1967) or lets go a little further back....The Velvet Underground and The Sonics (1963-1964)....Oh yeah guess what my brothas.....Blondie had the 1st rap song to hit # 1 and technically the first modern rap song before Sugarhill Gang.....but we can go deeper...Google....The first rap song that was ever recorded was 'Kinesiska Muren' with Swedish artist Evert Taube which was recorded in the 1920's......now go pick up ur welfare check...President Obama has for you with an extra food stamp card and some $7000 dollar 22 inch rims for your $200 dollar car.

I admittedly just skimmed the article, but I failed to find any reasons as to why it is a necessity to have more black video game characters. The skin color of a character (or anything) should be irrelevant. The personality and history are what matters, their background, culture, etc. Just make interesting characters. If it fits that they're one nationality or another, and this matters and actually adds depth to the character, then by all means alter their nationality accordingly. But adding specifically black characters to games essentially for it's own sake is definitely not something than needs to happen.

All I can read is how the Author claims the white people are oppressing black people in the video game industry.
Also, have you noticed most video games tend to pander at 14-25 year old WHITE person, aslong as this doesn't change.
African American people mostly come from poor families, and European American families usually are in a better household with better financial statue.
Stop being a white knight, it's like you and Patricia are in a completion which author hates white people the most.

The sad part is that it'd sell. Kids would have the face when they open that shyt up on Christmas morning.

On topic though, I don't think this is surprising to anyone who's been playing video games all their lives. The black character is usually the big burly uncouth character. We hardly ever have a black main character (I don't ever remember seeing one outside of CJ ). And not for nothing, but I've played Call of Duty on Xbox Live and been called a ****** more times than Django. It used to bother me until I took a look at the typical gamer. I'd be mad if I were them too.
