Kirlenko was one of the top defenders in the league back then. Durant is no where close to his level defensively. The point of that comparison is to show that Kobe can light up someone with Durant's length and athleticism.

Prime Kobe is the of one on one scoring. Dude could break you off every way imaginable while locking you up. I think threads like these separate those who actually watch the games versus those who don't. Durant is GREAT. But he's more of a catch and shoot scorer. He ain't built for one on one like Kobe. Hell I'd take Russ if he was 6'7" over Durant when it comes to pure one on one play.

Durant is a better defender than he get's credit for also I wouldn't compare the two because Kirelenko, while a very good defender did not defend in the same way Durant does, nor do I think Kirelenko is at or was ever quite as athletic as Durant, so please miss me with that who watches the games stuff, my argument is that Kobe is making up categories to make himself the GOAT when it's not necessary and that he's detracting from his own argument.
