Above the fray.
Buy an overpriced watch during lockdown.

I laugh at anyone buying materialistic shyt during a pandemic.

*not mocking Dr. Darity. He's an accomplished economist from a family of super accomplished people.
His research about addressing the structural inequities of this society is on point.

The elephant in the room that's always ignored is the conspicuous consumption of segments of Black people, and the effect of that on family wealth.

Waste of money. Bytches can't tell the difference between a Roley and a nice looking $20 watch from Target. Plus you'll be kicking yourself when it cracks.:camby:

Once I'm at "boss" levels I most likely won't even wear a watch.

Ultimate pieces though....

Vacheron Constantin Metiers d'Art The Legend of the Chinese Zodiac (This would be my "bling" watch)

We're currently in the "Year of the Rat"

I was born in the "Year of the Ox" so I'm waiting for that to come out.

I'm not really a fan of metal straps.

Go ahead. Buy them all. "Whenever you want".

How is buying a timeless appreciating asset stupid? Just wondering. Actually sounds like a great idea if you can afford it. And if it cracks you get it fixed. Not a big deal breh.

It was a tradition in Europe that when a child turned 18 years old, their parents gifted them with an expensive watch.

I think it's ok to buy a Rolex anytime. Just make sure that the watch coincides with where you're at in life. Like all watch companies have entry level models, mid-point models, etc.

You don't want to be an Amazon distribution worker that bought a bedazzled timepiece that would be commiserate with what the CEO of Amazon might wear.

You don't want to be that guy. You might think that you're flexing, but in fact, it will have the opposite effect.

This man knows what he is talking about.
I know guys who could buy 3-4 rolexes easy but they wear watches that make them happy.
For me a watch (especially a higher end one) should commemorate a moment.
You look down at your watch and go :banderas:, yeah I did that, I went there, I accomplished this etc.

I like this Russell Crowe video on his watches. He is selling them but each watch has a story.

Nice video. His watches progressively get better towards the end. I wouldn't sell my collection though. I'd give it to my sons.
