The fanbase loves him and he gave them exciting years after a whole lot of losing. He will probably get it. Knicks are a big franchise in terms of name but not when it comes to winning where requirements should be high.

I'm not sure. Melo won them one series in his entire tenure lol.

Raptors retired Vince jersey who also won them one series, but he literally put Raptors on the map.

Knicks before Melo still had a huge fanbase, I mean it's the fukking Knicks. Is New York retiring Jalen Brunson jersey as well if he decided not play another game for the Knicks? Quite low expectations. Up to the Knicks to set the bar on how much it deserves the hersey retirement.

I do think there is a generational gap with how Melo is viewed in NY among Knicks fans

Younger fans who see PG as their greatest of all time really admire Melo. But the more experienced and older fans understand that Melo hasn't accomplished much in the league other than focusing on scoring. When Houston let Melo go after just 10 games, it was a clear indictment on his abilities as a basketball player.

Brunson had accomplished nothing at least Melo got a scoring title and Melo never had a supporting cast as good as the one Brunson has :camby:
Man we don't care about that weak ass scoring title. Brunson's already passed Melo in playoff wins as a Knick in half the amount of time. Those are things that actually matter.

Brunson has a way better supporting cast :dead:

Give Knicks Melo KAT Josh Hart OG and he goes to the conference finals easily somewhere Brunson hasn’t been as Knick

Melo is far more Iconic as a Knick than Brunson you can’t really be from the city thinking otherwise :heh:

Dominique Wilkins has his jersey retired in Atlanta, and he never got out the 2nd round. So why can’t Melo or King get the same respect.
Dominique was a better player than Melo. In his prime (1985-94) he led the Hawks/Clippers to 44.6 wins/year; if you take out the '94 season he was traded, it goes up to 46.8 wins/year; if you take out his '92 injury season AND rge year he was traded, he had Atlanta winning 48 games/year...

Nique played 73.7 games per year; 77.6 games/year taking out '92...

He made the playoffs 6/9 years in his prime, and was 3-6 in playoff series, which isn't great either---->buts it's 3x as much winning as Melo brought New York...

This aint a real comparison, on average you were winning 5 to 11 more games per season with Dominique as your franchise cornerstone, than with Melo. Go look at some of those Hawks teams he was on, they weren't loaded either...
Mitchell Robinson isn’t in Melo’s tier you know this.

Knicks have never been blessed with top tier talent…we ain’t the Yankees.

We saying a guys # shouldn’t be retired off team accomplishments his supporting casts were ASS outside of his first 2.5 seasons. Individually he was a top 5 player in franchise history.

I’m not against guys like Starks and Oakley being up there either. If Nick Collison and Tony Allen can have their jerseys retired why the fukk not. The rafters are supposed to celebrate the great players and history of the franchise.
The team accomplishments matter when you're an individual of Melo's caliber, bruh. How could they not? Melo won 37-40 games/year, and one playoff series his entire Knicks run. Iverson didn't have great Sixers teams aside from '01 and still won more than one playoff series. Some of those Sixers teams were fukking terrible and he STILL won three playoff series with them (outside of '01)...

As a player, that's the level Melo is on, he should be on AI's level, but accomplished less. Like what standard are we holding Melo too bruh, you in here comparing him to Collison and Allen getting retired 🤣 the expectation of an elite, marquee player is not 40 wins/year and one playoff series win, that's not jersey retirement status...

Iverson wouldn’t do anything with Melo’s rosters. He’d win 37 games. At least Iverson’s teams were elite defensively which was what really drove them and their roster was more comparable talent wise to league average compared to Melo’s Knicks in his era.

Those Knicks teams had several players in the rotation who were not functional NBA players. Those were awful teams not to be compared to the 76ers. Phil Jackson destroyed the Knicks.

The team success wasn’t there but individually he was one of the greatest Knicks ever. He restored the feeling for a bit leading us to our best years in over a decade. He took that challenge on and wasted his prime on bad teams. It was a mixed bag but he was our guy.

Knicks rafters are empty why gatekeep something that’s meant to celebrate the history of the franchise. I’m not against adding Starks, Oakley, Mason, King, and Melo.

Melo, wants his name in the rafters but it won’t happen until after Jokic retires and 15 won’t be near his name. 15 can only be one man’s number in Denver and Melo is in his feelings because Jokic has an entire generation of nuggets fans who know nothing different. No reason to confuse them
