We’re talking about the Knicks here not the Lakers or the Celtics lol…

There isn’t all this history and greatness to point to as to why a guy shouldn’t have his jersey retired.

For the majority of Knicks fans 35 and under the Melo years were the best quality basketball, deepest playoff run, biggest resurgence, strongest cultural impact, best individual player they’ve seen.

Top 3 in three pointers made, top 5 in points per game, 5th in box plus minus, 2nd in value over replacement, 62 points MSG record, classic moments like the Easter game against the Bulls, 6x All-Star, 2x All-NBA, Scoring Champ in the jersey. He’s a guy that took on that responsibility of bringing the franchise back. Despite the lack of ‘winning’ the front office and luck plays a role too. He’s a top 75 guy. He’s a Hall of Famer. As one of the best players in franchise history he should be up there.
Yea but also you don't just lower the bar because the comp is trash, just had a glance at the Knicks franchise records and those list get NASTY very quickly and this would turn into a joke thread if someone posted them to make Melo's case...

Y'all gonna retire Mitchell Robinson's jersey because he's number 2 all time in blocks? :beli: Ewing is number 1 with 2 THOUSAND more blocks than him :laff:

NYC supposed to have more pride than that, just as a city

I like that the clippers haven't retired anyone's jersey :manny: they could've lined the rafters using those same metrics for their franchise but they know that shyt would look pathetic

The raptors only retired Vince and they JUST did that in 2024

Just because Melo been begging for flowers doesn't mean he should get em :manny: he's can't sit at the MVP/Championship table at the draft class reunion

Mitchell Robinson isn’t in Melo’s tier you know this.

Knicks have never been blessed with top tier talent…we ain’t the Yankees.

We saying a guys # shouldn’t be retired off team accomplishments his supporting casts were ASS outside of his first 2.5 seasons. Individually he was a top 5 player in franchise history.

I’m not against guys like Starks and Oakley being up there either. If Nick Collison and Tony Allen can have their jerseys retired why the fukk not. The rafters are supposed to celebrate the great players and history of the franchise.

Brunson had accomplished nothing at least Melo got a scoring title and Melo never had a supporting cast as good as the one Brunson has :camby:

I DONT THINK U CAN RETIRE THE SAME JERSEY FOR 2 PEOPLE LOL

I THINK DENVER HAD NO IDEA JOKIC WOULD BE A STAR N WAS INITIALLY PLANNING TO RETIRE 15 FOR MELO LATER ON

JOKIC RUINED THAT
Knicks have #15 retired in the rafters twice. dikk McGuire & Earl Monroe.

JB going up there when it’s all set and done.

Will continue to rack up accolades, move up in franchise ranks, and he made a huge financial sacrifice to stay.

Not even fair to Melo. Brunson has a much better top down organizational structure from Leon Rose to Thibs to the supporting cast.

If they haven’t retired John Starks’ number, why the hell would you retire Melo’s number? I’d argue that Starks & Oakley have better arguments to have their numbers retired before you even think about retiring #7. That 90s Knicks team accomplished almost as much as their only championship winning teams of the 70s, and that 90s team had several deep playoff runs and 2 Finals appearances. Melo is 2nd or 3rd in the pecking order as far as future retired numbers go. As for retiring his number in Denver, his number will be retired alright, it’s just a shame his name won’t be on that #15 Jersey.
