This idea that you have to win a championship to get your number retired is bullshyt

Knicks need to retire Carmelo and Bernard King’s numbers hands down two of the best players in franchise history

I came in to say I don’t think they even have Bernard King’s number retired…

It's not about winning a championship...

He only played there for 6½ years, so to justify retiring his jersey, he'd have to have had an amazing 6½ years. He didn't...

He played an average of 67.9 games/year in a Knick jersey, so he was available besides the '15 season. In that same frame of time, NY won an average of 36.9 games/year---->even if you take out his lost '15 year that he missed 42 games, the Knicks still only won 40.2 games/year...

This is a guy who deserves his number retired to you? 3 playoff appearances, with a 1-3 series record in those appearances, 37-40 wins/year, but he plays 68-73 games/year? This is a guy who deserves his number retired?

The standards have gotten kinda low for you in The Apple, dawg 😆...

I actually do think the Knicks might reward him since he's been begging for years in a sort of "Here nikka, DAMN!" type of manner. It's hard to say he actually deserves it though. He did nothing of real significance there and a guy like Jalen Brunson has already eclipsed his legacy in only 3 seasons. I see some people in this thread trying to reward him for asking to be traded there but the Knicks probably would've been better off keeping all those assets they used to acquire him.

He shouldn't be surprised if he ends up like T-Mac though If people actually have to debate whether or not you belong in the rafters, then it strongly suggests that you don't.

We’re talking about the Knicks here not the Lakers or the Celtics lol…

There isn’t all this history and greatness to point to as to why a guy shouldn’t have his jersey retired.

For the majority of Knicks fans 35 and under the Melo years were the best quality basketball, deepest playoff run, biggest resurgence, strongest cultural impact, best individual player they’ve seen.

Top 3 in three pointers made, top 5 in points per game, 5th in box plus minus, 2nd in value over replacement, 62 points MSG record, classic moments like the Easter game against the Bulls, 6x All-Star, 2x All-NBA, Scoring Champ in the jersey. He’s a guy that took on that responsibility of bringing the franchise back. Despite the lack of ‘winning’ the front office and luck plays a role too. He’s a top 75 guy. He’s a Hall of Famer. As one of the best players in franchise history he should be up there.

Seems like he is a Nuggets legend more than a Knock legend.

He doesn't deserve to be held in the same esteem as Walt , Bradley, and Ewing .

I wouldn't even put him on Allen Houston level
