Thinking of sending LinkedIn messages to hopefully build my network. It’s pretty rough and to the point but I’ll see how it works out.

If they respond, I’ll say:

And then respond with

Was thinking about adding something in about helping them with any projects they’re working on but prob not gonna do that because of NDAs and it just seems weird to ask for a stranger.

In the process of gathering the names now. Gonna narrow it down to a few fields people doing the job I want rn. Relatively young, not really looking for super established industry professionals.

I will have the messages sent by Wednesday. Trying to aim for 5-10.

Don’t do this. Ppl are only willing to help if you have some sort of value. You may need to apply to remote positions, do an actual internship, or relocate. Don’t expect to jump into a prime company, that’s only for kids with connections.

Your location also may not be working for you. Unless you’re living with family, then look for remote. That way you can save money.

If you want to take a risk, you relocate and move to a place that hires you.

You need to start picking up contract roles. 3-6 month jobs just to get your resume up to date and your foot in the door. I would be reaching out to every staffing agency in your city. On LinkedIn, set your profile to open to work (you'll have a green ring around your profile picture). Should you get a few of those under your belt, then focus on FT employment. For now, a gig is a gig.

This as well. You gotta stay active. I hope you’re not being picky. Cause in your 20s you should be experimenting.

I responded like an hour or two after they sent me the initial response.

Then they waited a week to say they emailed me info on the position. Which I literally never got and they have my email from both my resume and the website I was using. Checked spam and everything. So I responded like the same hour they sent it to me twice making sure they had my new email and me saying I haven’t received it.

Idk onto the next one I guess. Sucks cause it was fully remote too SMH

They played you. Keep those notifications on.

Appreciate the advice.

Any ways that I can growth hack value? I mean my degree hold some merit since I’m from a top school. I can talk about my startup experience too.

Get a help desk job so you can put something on your resume
Pay will be shyt but unless you have internships or something else really nice on your resume you need some adjacent role to pivot off of
As a last resort I’m going to go to a temp agency by mid 2022. If that doesn’t transition into anything I can game for a full time role then I’m just gonna go into the military. I’m scoring at least 90th percentile on the ASVAP without even studying. Gonna do Airforce and work in computers if it comes down to it. Get a CS degree online with my GI. That’s my absolute last resort tho.

What resume format are you using? A functional format maybe better to highlight all your areas of talent. I’ve used this format to highlight projects ive worked on in my masters program, but not have actual experience with. Chronological may not be best with having a gap in employment.

I used the syllabi from my classes to create bullet points and saved all my completed course work to folders in the event I need to showcase something.

I know you’re looking for “anything”, but try to niche your search. Narrow down to a specific technology or skill and craft your resumes around that.

I use two resume templates, one from Colombia university and the other from a top business school.

Might experiment with a functional one. But idk if it would get past ATS.

If you have the right keywords it should pass. I always keep a skills section on my resume to list those random buzzwords.

It may be weird but try Craigslist for your local city and look at the computer/it jobs. Some of the smaller companies opt for lesser known/cheaper avenues to advertise jobs. Sites like Indeed or Dice can get saturated quickly.

Real talk

People giving you genuine advice in here and you wasting their time

You post too much bullshyt on this site for me to believe you are serious about anything

My bro in the time since you started this thread I’ve search, applied, interviewed, turned down and accepted a better job than I had a month ago

I have no degree and a criminal record

You bullshytting

Stop talking about your resume like you doing something

Stop occupying your mind with foolinish in TLR and take your life seriously

Go do door to door sales or telemarketing so you have some kind of experience working and talking actual people

I’ll consider those roles, but I’m unsure how those would transfer to career type roles I’m interested in.

TLR is a hobby of mine. I’m actually putting in the work. And what information have I gotten that I haven’t implemented? :heh:

I’ve reworked my resume. I’ve gone to the county unemployment office and asked about grants for certs and work training. The first of which they did not have and the latter of which they didn’t have available either.

I’ve been studying for the PM certs recommended in this thread. Gotten back access to Handshake, started applying on there. In addition, I’ve continued applying to jobs and seeking out opportunities. So far I have two warm leads. I’ve reached out to a few non-profits as well and offered my services for internships, a few never responded and some said they would get back to me if they needed something like that in the future.

Only thing I can honestly say I really messed up on was not seeing a post by that one breh who knew someone who was actively hiring.

Now tell me again how I’m wasting so much time. Why because I post in TLR? Good grief.

Why not either do contract or temp to hire work now? It’s easier to get a job when you got one.

Oh yeah so going back to “hack value” you can’t hack value, you gotta have something that makes ppl wana connect with you.

You can have one or more the following:

- Good school (Ivy or another well known school)
- Good internship (You now have a company backing)
- Powerful mentor / colleagues to recommend you / referral letters
- Certifications from a well known program
- If you have money, you can pay for it (manipulate your LinkedIn profile)
- Volunteer at a prestigious organizations / clubs (For networking, that will later help you create value)
- Access - (this one is optional) To the coolest places in your city / reservations to high level restaurants / social clubs

Figure out what you can offer people and what makes you valuable. Make a list.

I got my first internship through my colleges’ job portal. I would talk to your dean as well and see if they got any avenues.

See what jobs your school has open that pertains to you. They’re more willing to hire current and past students.

I know Apex systems(company) it’s one of the best way to break in too(help desk).

It’s a good market. Hell, I get hit up by recruiters everyday and I’m not that far into mines. Keep going!
