Amazon finally has a color Kindle, and it looks pretty good
It’s a Paperwhite with a color screen – and that’s exactly what some readers want.www.theverge.com
I don't really need this as I have several e-readers including a few Kindles. I might trade in my 2018 Paperwhite and get $86 off this. The first color kindle is finally here

Nope:the new ones don't???
Email to kindle is still an option, I use that from time to time via calibre so that works.Nope:
Amazon Removed Download and Transfer Option for New Kindles
Here's something that's going to set off some conspiracy theories. As people are getting the new Kindles that were released last week, they are finding out that the new models are mysteriously missing the download and transfer via USB option for purchased ebooks from the content page at Amazon...blog.the-ebook-reader.com
I've never owned a kindle, but buy most books there (and copped a ton of free ones), so I've got +400 (mostly unread) books stuck w/ Amazon.
I feel like this is the first step towards completely removing the option, so I made the purchase on eBay for $50. Sucks that I have to 'free' books I already own, but I've got enough books that it's worth it.

also may want to read this. I thought you were saying the kindle only allows books purchased through amazon to work.
ah yeah, they said it will be an issue for that.I download all my Amazon purchased Kindle books and strip the DRM off them to make backup copies. Lucky for me I keep a couple Kindle Voyage units and they still have that feature.
When they cut that off I'll have to start buying epub books from other sellers and sending them to the Kindle. I don't trust Amazon for permanent access to the books I've purchased which I own over 300 on Kindle. At the same time I love whispersync that keeps my progress in their books in the cloud to sync between devices.ah yeah, they said it will be an issue for that.
