This thread is the very problem Kevin was talking about. I made sure to actually watch the video before commenting, did you, OP? Just being a part of the problem...tearing the image of another black man down. @ViShawn IF you are a black man, and that's a HUGE IF, you should be incredibly ashamed of yourself of the dishonest thread title alone.

How am I tearing down the image of Black men? There are few members and moderators know that I'm Black man. I also watched the entire video and clothing was just part of it. It was just a discussion and people are getting defensive.

You know exactly what you're doing. The way you worded everything, you were looking for a sensational response, which you received. Now...looking at the first page alone, based off the thread that YOU made, would you say you've mislead people by your representation of what was being said in the video? Clothing was not even the overall message within the video. It was about the willingness a black man has to tear down the image of another black man, by going on the Internet and just saying any damn thing, taking tidbits of a whole with little to no context and painting a false narrative. Like you just fukking did.

Look at the conversation in the main KS thread. We were discussing a portion of it.

I don't like this argument. So every time I step outside the house I have to be in a suit and tie?

I think it's partly coming from a different era for one. I do think that us as society has become too casual in my opinion.

My parents have always told me to dress up a dress code above everyone else around me at work.

You can do a sports jacket or just dress in an elevated manner. I'm in my late 30s though so some of the stuff I wore in my 20s and early 30s I don't rock with now.

:gucci: How about trading jeans for chinos? Buy more casual shirts with collars and buttons. Switch out the athletic sneakers for a more mature 'casual' shoe.

Well...yes, to a certain degree. Are you willing to sacrifice some personal comfort for the greater good? In the military, there's this saying called "perception is reality". I think there's a time and a place for everything, I think a lot of black men and women are too casual in the way we do things. You don't got to wear a suit but at least make sure your clothes are neat and put together. A lot of our people need to get away from dressing tacky and things that don't suit us. I hate seeing old men dressing like time capsules for dated fashion. Get a nice leather jacket, some fitting jeans and a nice t shirt your size and you good. No more wife beaters, no gaudy ass jewelry. A nice Cuban link and maybe a simple watch or ring.

I haven’t watched the show on men, tonight, yet, but I’m glad he’s doing this. We got some things that need to be discussed as well.

I do think an expanded wardrobe is good. Ain’t gotta wear tennis shoes all the time. Like the older men used to say, it’s ok to step out in a blazer from time to time, and dress up. Sometimes you gotta look the part, and be grown and professional. I’ve said it on here before, but every man should atleast have a suit in his wardrobe, and if your money is right, get you 3 suits; a gray, navy and maybe a tan suit. If your money isn’t right, save up so you can afford one. Also, the gaudy jewelry isn’t needed every day. A nice Cuban link will do, and every man needs a nice watch. It’s ok to spend a little money on a watch, and I ain’t talmbout no damn Apple Watch.

This should be its own thread. Image is way more important than we give it credit for. I mean why do you think the Nation of Islam has always had a dress code of wearing a suit and a bow tie? It’s because it matters.

That's the reason why I made this damn thread and that's why I tagged who I did in the OP. Any insinuation as to why I created it is you projecting.

You should have kept it in the thread. Because a thread titled "Kevin Samuels: Black men need to change their image." linking an hour long video is surely going to get his message across which to be quite honest is probably his best video. Bravo. Enjoy your internet points.

No, he said to dress like an adult male. That don't gotta be suits.

A lot of you don't realize the impression athleisure gives. Its not 'adult male handling business'. More like 'overgrown teenager chilling n shyt.' :hubie:

:jbhmm: Its weird to me that y'all arguing so hard against it, tbh. Bw who dress inappropriately youthful are never given this kinda leeway.

Dressing youthful for black women, and women in general usually equals like whores. The way black men dress ,whether its technically "young" or not is never going to simply give off "teen chilling and having fun". We all know damn well that is far too innocent. When it comes to black men,we will be viewed as menaces or safe negroes, thats it. There is no nuance when it comes to black men and the vibes we give off. No black man should be trying to appeal to the sensibilities of Europeans in our down time. We already are degraded by the fact we have to do it to gain employment,or before we go see some cracka judge. Now we need to be worried about how we are viewed by Europeans full time?

I don't agree with a lot of stuff Kevin Samuel's say, but this I do agree with. I've been noticing lately a lot of black men old enough to be my father dressing like teenagers.

Being damn near 60 while dressing like you are 20 is clear sign of arrested development.

Too many of us want to live in state of perpetual adolescence.

Very few real adults around these days.
