I posted a few and people decided to focus on the pleat picture which I didn't even post at first.

@TEH and @The Hierophant proved also that people won't even read/listen what you posted. They will just read the title. They talked about white people throughout it but no one even mentioned white people.

The IG post didn’t kill you. The select “black” ppl didn’t want to listen. They like the idea of dysfunction and “keeping it real”. You can’t talk about change or demands for bills to be passed if your image isn’t taken seriously.

I honestly think a lot of brehs are just scared. Scared of the ridicule, scared of their ppl joking on them, scared of change and scared to be taken seriously & that’s a shame.

I'll say this as a corporate cat, dress shirt & tie 5 days a week
Dress how you want
I'll be damned If I can't rock some Air Max 90 or Diamond Turfs w/ some joggers on the weekend. Don't care if I'm 70.
The pressure on black men to do what other people say like we just servants is ridiculous
I dress up cause I like it, if I didn't, I wouldn't
Stop being so intolerant
Exactly.

Kwame Brown touched on this.

The whole world wants to tell black men what to do and how to do it.

They can :camby:

I appreciated the thread. Some people think that dressing like that is “corny” yet want to be taken seriously in business environments. You can’t save everyone. That’s why the priority is connecting and guiding like-minded brehs and black boys.

Look of the Week -

I appreciate you brother. I'm not telling folks to rock a suit every day. I just recall growing up seeing my parents going to work dressing up. Even my Mom worked from home for 15 years I recall her dressing up a little bit...maybe throwing on a blouse over her sweatpants...just to get in the right mindset. It made me realize the power of clothes far beyond them being something functional. For me dressing well makes me feel prepared for any encounter when I go out in the world - it's like a suit of armor when you do it right. Sub communicating YOUR brand to everyone else.

That's what I was simply trying to convey. I could give a fukk what white people think. It's something I do for me.

Unfortunately given how casual society is things tend to be too lax for me sometimes but dressing above everyone else can come off pretentious to some. It's mind blowing to me. During COVID I've been trying to add more smart casual pieces that I can dress up and down in my wardrobe. Something I've been trying to work on - not being stuffy but also unapologetically myself and authentic.

Since the KS stans going so hard for him.

Why do black men need to change our image, hmm? What's wrong with our image?

It's more about the image being controlled by others. Also the Black men that are on TV are trashing other Black men. That's what Kwame Brown was talking about.

Image is more than attire. He only talked about it for a few minutes. It's also as simple as if you have a beef with another brotha to not do it out in public but sit down and talk to him man to man.

"Image controlled by others", okay, so like alot of was saying, appeasing other folks.

And here we go back to the Kwame Brown bs. So if someone is bad at their job, or says some bullsh*t, we shouldn't call them out because their black?

Not appeasing others but rather reclaiming it and controlling it for us. When people say we're crazy, thugs, gay, etc we as Black men shouldn't be slandering each other or taking part of it.

Black women are on code. Black men ain't.

Kwame did a lot of stuff that very few of us CAN do. I can't hate on him. :yeshrug:

....
He didn’t say it explicitly...but he told us we need to change our image to not fit the media narrative and his desired image for us is that of middle and upper class white people dress. So Art Barr’s paraphrase was accurate.
No actually he didn’t

he made sure to say this has nothing to do with white people

how about you watch the video

Just some seem like a costume more than a real life fit. That makes it seem corny to me.

Nah, most Black women prefer a guy dressed like Future or the Migos.

I would say that learning how to switch it up is the major key. One thing our generation has pretty much shelved is dress shirts. Unless they are going all out and I think that's fine tbh. Pieces are interchangeable.

Instead of a blazer, I'll choose the inverted lapel coat. Instead of a dress shirt, I'll go with the short sleeve turtle neck and toss it on under the coat or nice bomber jacket.

We don’t need to reclaim shyt. If another group doesn’t like our image, that's THEIR problem, not ours, foh.

Why is everything about cacs tho?? What ever happened to in group respect of each other?? Adults and teenagers shouldn't have the same wardrobe.

Breh, I'm not going to respect you more because you're dressed up. You get the same respect everyone else gets unless we are in some type of conflict. Adults and teenagers have had the same wardrobe up until 1950's.

What if you're comfortable in a suit?

If you’re comfortable in a suit, that’s fine. My point is that you shouldn’t wear a suit just because some guy on YouTube (or anyone else) says you should for the sake of looking “grown” or “sophisticated.”

You could see a man in nice suit on a random day and think “Ooh he must be business man” when in reality, he’s on his way to court.

Like when Bishop told Steel that he had more control over his life, it's the same with you guys and these Youtubers :mjlol: :unimpressed:
