Defenders are longer than they were back then and it’s harder to get into the paint now versus back when Clyde played.
His 3 was broke but his midrange was money and he was constantly among the leaders at his position in rebounds, steals and assist. No one in the lane he beats you off the dribble and its a dunk. Those portland teams he wasnt dominating the ball like he would be today
I see him scoring a cpl pts more than his average simply off space to operate. They issue with him would definitely when he's forced to his off-hand, but I still see him doing damage.
I think Clyde's handles were to limited imo
Agreed there's no chance Clyde could "dominate the ball" in today's game, he only dribbled with his right and always had his head down. His handles are not at the level of a ball-dominant PG of today.
And no, his midrange was not money, it was streaky and he especially struggled in the big moments. He'd bury them one night and look broke the next. Form was too wack to be consistent.
I don't know where some of y'all came up with the idea that there wasn't room to get into the lane in the 1990s. It was far easier to get in the lane back then when the illegal defense rules meant players couldn't leave their guy and hedge the driving lanes. Clyde scored mostly on fast breaks, drives, and cuts, it wasn't like centers were stopping him very often. I've posted Finals clips on here where guys keep getting to the basket untouched over and over again. Y'all spend too much time thinking about Hakeem, Robinson, Ewing when most teams didn't have no one like that. Just look at the Finals teams - they were starting Duckworth, Divac, Cartwright, West, Longley, Perkins, Foster....you really think those guys are scary rim protectors single-handedly keeping drivers out of the lanes?
Clyde's best attributes were athleticism for his size, unselfishness, great body control and incredible touch around the basket. He was in the perfect era for his skill set - he'd still be a baller today but he wouldn't be as well-fitted to the era as he was then.
