I might be late as fukk realizing this. But l think kendrick is talking to the car that murdered his best friend Dave. If yall remember GKMC, Kendrick speaks on him. Daves killer was arrested and is servin life. And Kendrick apparently was smashin that nikkaz chick. "If these walls could talk" takes on a whole new level of significance:whew:
Yup.

This shyt is a platinum weed plate. Holy shyt I knew it was going to be bad, but not like this.

Once again Kendrick hides behind voice distortions, atmospheric beats, and preachy subject matter to hide his lack of lyricism and flow. Listening to Mural/Adroation of the Magi/Madonna then this is the difference between sitting in a college lecture hall and a middle school social studies class. Only certain rappers really do political/social rap well. Kendrick is not one of them.

I try to like him but when he's rhyming damn near every bar with nikka, or Poo Poo on multiple tracks it just leaves a lot to be desired. Especially when dumbass millenials put him in the same category as Wassalu. Lyrically, Kendrick will never be that good. He isn't that kind of artist. He's a modern day version of your 90's standout crew rapper. He isn't bad but no one is listening to dude in large doses and really getting knowledge.

Outside of How Much a Dollar Cost (the track where he talks to God as the bum) this is straight to the recycle bin.

The World, but from BK
The third verse on Momma is soo dope as he's convo'ing with the little kid or it could be himself before the fame. How Much A Dollar costs, was just a great concept done and very relatable. I think we all felt the same way when we've seen a homeless person asking for money at one time or another.

The beat on this song is just so smooth. One thing I really like about Kendrick is how much detail he uses in his storytelling.

I do think Lupe is the far better lyricist. But I feel like Kendricks album is easier to take in and digest. A little more simplified. But I think both really compliment each other as far as social issues go. 2 different albums making us think clear and in puzzles. Inspiring that spark from a mainstream perspective which is cool.

Does the Source Magazine still review albums? Or am i behind?

With the exception of horrible moments of rating the Naked Truth 5 mics and Bun B's album years ago, 99 percent of the time in my opinion they were on point. I was just curious to see what they had to say about this.

Its odd how its 2 white guys that started the Source yet 95 percent of the albums they rated 5 mics(or ratings in general) were on point.

But with the rating of Bun B's album, Naked Truth, and MBDTF in the past 10 years i'm wondering if we should not really wait for their review if they have fell off.

LOL. You're a better man than me. I'm still dodging most of this album. I knew this shyt would be a weedplate. Those first 3 singles, plus a few album cuts convinced me that I was in for a terrible album. And I'd rather not waste my time and subject my ear to that kinda assault. At least not yet.

Fistful of jewels
Kendrick won….probably Aftermath's greatest artist and he is only on album #2. :ohhh:

Note Kendrick did the smart thing, he didn't get caught up in saying "lets go to the trap house" "let's ride on our enemies"
"We popping bottles all night"

Whether you like the album, that isn't important, your reaction is all that is important. He designed this album to sound unlike anything on the majors, I am pretty confident K could've done something w/ the same producers, stock sounds.

I bet this hurts a lot of rappers out there who have had label deals and you went the opposite, you went w/ the same producers & the same subject matter & themes. They didn;t understand one thing: Kendrick knows he can influence the next because they aren't just enjoying the music, the PEOPLE are listening.

And yea your boy may clown you in the studio for doing something different, but guess what? You won't like yourself as an artist if you just go w/ the flock, if you have the goods to give something interesting to the game, do it, no matter what the cost.
Kendrick, is an artist. Not must a simple MC or rapper. A true artist.
