Why, though? The whole context of the song is resisting anti-Blackness. People should be willing to address the complexities of anti-Blackness as it appears in our community, too. It's not like he made an entire song out of that one line, which would have been too much, but we can't pretend it's not part of the larger picture, either.

Too many people give rappers a pass for talking about shooting other Black folks and enslaving them with drugs, but then turning around and doing songs about Trayvon or Eric Garner as if they're social activists for us at the same time. That behavior is hypocritical at the end of the day, no matter how you look at it. A Black man getting shot by gangbangers and by police might have different causes, but at the end of the day a murdered Black man is a murdered Black man, and there are too many murdered Black men. Systemic racism of the police might be worse, but both problems will need to be addressed before our communities can thrive. I think people are missing that doing two contradictory things that make you a hypocrite does NOT mean those two things have moral or any other kind of complete equivalence.

Listen to Willie Hutch's Brothers Gonna Work It Out for another example of a classic that calls out pimps, drug dealers, and police at the same time. And that's from The Mack- no c00ning involved there.
You can't tell em no better than this.

re-read what i said...i never said he said that in the song....i was elaborating on why i felt the way i did about the last line....i gave my thoughts about the line specifically in the point before the last one....

as for the rest of your post: yea, we need to get our shyt together, but that doesnt mean whenever we talk about this, that we always have to say 'we need to get our shyt together first' like that's gonna change how they treat us....one has nothing to do with the other....

breh...that's the disconnect in society as a whole.. we're all connected and the majority don't even know it...

1 ALWAYS has SOMETHING to do with the other. Even if I take your stance, has it even been done? So how do we really know?...It seems your point of view has always prevailed and it really hasn't done a thing in the grand scheme of things..

.Ask yourself this....If a woman acts like a hoe, aren't you going to be more likely to treat her like a hoe? If a woman treats herself with some respect, she's likely to be treated how she is projecting...

I don't treat people based on the way they treat themselves, I treat people the way thet should be treated, including women who are classified as hoes.

What did Africans do to Europeans to deserve being enslaved, and treated like subhumans, were we acting like thugs and gangsters back then?

You're preaching respectability politics just like Kendrick Lamar and Don Lemon, "all we need to do is..." that's bullshyt.

no, that's not the disconnect in society....everything is not connected...somethings are, somethings arent....people try to force everything to be connected though cause it makes it easier for them....

in this case: it's not connected....however we act amongst ourselves doesnt give them the right to treat us like shyt.....the reason being cause we're not talking about 1 individual (like your example), we're talking about a group made up of different individuals...and to always say that 'we need to clean up our shyt first' is just feeding right into the bullshyt stereotyping and generalizations that they use to act the way they do when interacting with us....seriously, do you really think the majority of us are gangbanging? fukked up mentality? dont have manners? are criminals? (insert whatever negative shyt that is said about us to treat us the way they do)?....no, we're not....but that's the way they act when talking about us as a whole, they take the smallest example of something and use it to always talk negativity (except when it comes to entertaining them)........what they should do is treat every individual person they meet how they'd want to be treated until/unless that person gives them a reason not to...you know, living by the same shyt they say in regards to how we should treat them; how they treat other non blacks; how they treat themselves...i mean, you dont hear saying shyt like 'we need to get our shyt together, if we want them to treat us better' after a white person has done some shyt...

has what ever been done? cleaning up our shyt first? yea, it's been done plenty of times....and everytime it's been done, they still came and killed us, treated us like shyt, etc....ex: black wall street....

my point of view hasnt always prevailed because we never truly call them out on their shyt....we have been conditioned to be the most forgiving people on the planet except when it comes to our own...we'll hold another black person's feet to the fire, but we'll come up with every reason why we shouldnt do it to non-blacks...and the main scapegoat reason taht's usually used: we need to get our shyt together first.....

You must know not everyone thinks like you, so imagine those that DO think that way.

What did Africans do to Europeans to deserve being enslaved, and treated like subhumans, were we acting like thugs and gangsters back then?
Okay, so THIS must be the debate. I just don't know how people are making this connection from that bar. Hell, it was in the bible that men SHOULD even have slaves...lol...Don't get me going on THAT shyt... .Check it tho, what IF we took responsibility and it were no killings because of the set you claim...no gang initiation shootings, none of that dumb shyt. What if we had the ability to unite and fight with one fist. You think they'd fukk with us then?...hell no...that's why they have built all these systems up to condition us to hate each other and fight each other rather than focusing on the real problem....THEM... It's a game, they moving pieces all behind the scenes while we still at the starting point...

You're preaching respectability politics just like Kendrick Lamar and Don Lemon, "all we need to do is..." that's bullshyt.

What would your solution be?

We just have a philosophical difference that you're sleep to....It's all good..
We definitely are connected breh..

It's hard to debate when I agree with so much of what ya'll saying....It's just slight tweaks that i see that are needed...I see the world, life, totally different, without the fear and hate i should see it in...that shyt is all a lie...I'm wide awake tho..

again none of that shyt you typed pertains to Kendricks song

You are inferring it yourself as how whites would view it

Kendrick never said any of that nor did he make comparisons

he said he's a hypocrit to mourn a black life then take one himself

he's speaking from a gangbangers perspective that actually takes black lives

not from a regular black person who duznt take lives and is hassled by police and weirdos (like Trayvon Martin by Zimmerman)

that seems to be tha point you morons are missing in this thread: context
