He's right. Kanye has reached the realm of celebrity where in overall pop culture Kendrick isn't touching him but he's not in that same space of musical relevance anymore.

What he's wrong about is 700K lol
Man, I just slid through Spotify and DONDA has more streams than TPAB which came out in 2015. :yeshrug: I'm a Kendrick fan, but he doesn't put out enough music to be more "relevant" than someone like Ye. He's not particularly innovative and he isn't ushering in some new generation of artists taking over the industry. He's just the current era "thinking man's" mainstream rapper. But his music isn't really moving people like that and you know it. We just appreciate the quality of the music and the lyricism-- but he's always lacked that extra something that the real icons have.
This isn't a Kendrick fan's paragraph

I hate comparing contemporary artists to legacy artists. Eminem has been in the game for 4 decades now. We really have to wait til kendrick career is done but let’s see something

This is Kendricks 4th major album release right?

Eminem had before his 4th album

Infinite
SSLP
MMLP
TES

Features from 97 to 04

8 mile soundtrack

Vs

Kendrick Lamar before his 4th album

Section 80
Good Kidd Maad City
TPAB
Damn

Black Panther Soundtrack

Features 2006 to 2022

What do you think?
The winner is Kendrick lol. Eminem gets disrespected for being white but Kendrick has outdone him up similar stages of their careers and he's not about to drop albums as polarizing as Em post-2004.

If its a double album I assume he's retiring....or going the way of andre 3k.

Features and what not on tracks that move him until he just doesn't really rap anymore

Why would he retire just to start pgLang?

Rappers don’t REALLY retire (except Andre 3000) Nas said it best back in 2006 this shyt is for life. Kendrick’s only 34, I believe he’s got plenty of projects left in him.

Probably won’t happen but I’m hopping for a black hippy track, Nas feature and a Cole feature.

It being his final TDE album I do believe that a Black Hippy reunion would be appropriate.

Nas and Kendrick share the same manager as of last year so it COULD happen. Soon as Anthony Saleh started managing Future he and Nas did two joints together.
I think the only holdup on tgatvwould be Nas himself. He seems SUPER selective about who he does tracks with outside of the Hit-Boy camp these days. He didn’t do the feature for Push. He didn’t do the feature for Cordae. Jim Jones has been trying to get at him for a minute. It SEEMS if you’re not a legend (Snoop, Stevie Wonder) then Nas isn’t too pressed to do a feature run.

With J.Cole I think it’s inevitable they’ll work together again. Their homies. Whether it be on this particular project or the one on pgLang I couldn’t tell

What if the Bug Steppers portion is every track is a collab:jbhmm:

Somebody else in this thread said that.

I think you run the risk of the album being messy and unfocused when cram collabs onto EVERY song.

UNLESS

The Big Steppers ARE Black Hippy/TDE artists:ohhh:

we could be getting a two for one. The first disc all Kendrick and the second disc being the bad getting back together and making that Black Hippy album the fans have been wanting. It could theoretically knock out a lot of birds with one stone.

Get the world excited again for projects from Soul, Rock, and Q

Prepare for SZA’s upcoming album

Help further distance Isaiah Rashad from his debacle

Act as a final “farewell” to the original TDE crew.

lmao dont give me Black Hippy in 2022, we wanted that 10 years ago.

I would much rather prefer features with all the spitters today similar to the COTI album: Gibbs, Benny, Ransom, Styles P, etc.

Get Roddy Ricch for a "Compton" tribute record, and maybe Drake and Cole for a posse cut, and that's it for mainstream features.

A double album in 2022:damn:

Nobody but Biggie has made a top to bottom CLASSIC Hip Hop album!

Not Pac
Not Nas (although I personally love Streets Disciple its not classic)
Not Hov

The closest would be Outkast with Speakerboxxx/The Love Below and thats debatable

Props to Kendrick for having the heart and confidence to attempt it. Looking forward to
It
Drought 3 is a classic
