When Marvin dropped “Here My Dear” after the universally loved “I Want You”, he confused everyone. Some even said he purposely put out a bad album because it was being used to pay off his ex wife. It’s probably one of the most conflicted and personal R&B albums ever made. There’s no easy or general way into or through it, you just have to be Marvin for the duration or the record

It wouldn’t be until many years later that people actually got what he was doing. Now its considered a classic. I’m not sure this is a classic, but I know 10 years from now people are going to revisit this and give it a few extra stripes. It’s just way too much to digest in it’s initial run.

🤦🏾‍♂️ This album isn’t panned or considered a bad album like Hear My Dear was. It’s literally the most critically acclaimed album of the year. People who love it, love it. Those who don’t just don’t.

never thought i'd see a Kendrick album come and go... reminds me of the CLB album by Drake...

two of the most disappointing albums in recent memory.
Drake got so many numbers on the board it doesn't matter. Even when his album ain't hot, he'll be floating on collaborations, still shining. Kendrick, not so much.

Its 5 minutes of the most evil, vitriolic, angry, toxic shyt two people could ever say to each other culminating in an uncomfortable sexual interlude, its no wonder it’s falling off the charts. The surprise was that debuted so high in the first place

Am I the only one that's not uncomfortable listening to that song?

It's obviously not a dance pop song, but I've heard it multiple times and it's one of the most memorable songs on the album. I do agree with you, though. It's raw and gross at times, but that's probably why I like it.

I’m not “uncomfortable” listening to it but it would be like if “u” or “Fear” debuted so high on the charts. There’s no way in HELL it would stay so high on the charts given the subject matter, production, and execution. Its not MEANT to be a hit single, its a representation of Kendrick’s masterful storytelling.

Not a good album imo but a great album. The only issue is it's just too heavy and so dense I can't play it all the time.

It makes you have to think too deeply and doesn't have enough tracks to just ride to. In fact I haven't played this past the week after it's release.
