This don't hit like GKMC where you knew it was a dope album listen 1 based off the vibe.
Many albums when classic hit out the gate. Life after death, blueprint, stillmatic, get rich or die tryin. Carter 2 was fire listen 1.
Growers off hand...black album and take care....but that's because I couldn't immediately get into their production/beats off first few listens as I had certain expectations. Jeezy first album had to grow on me because my ear was tuned to Kanye conscience content era along with soulful beats minus the lil Jon and Ludacris exceptions. So, If you wasn't a guest rapper on Chapelle show I wasn't feeling the music...that's the culture/climate Jeezy and the Houston rappers 2005 was competing with.
Anyways, Off first listen only tracks I like are: die hard, savior, the beat for mirror.
Plus album not ground breaking as Brandon Marshall been talking about mental health for last 5years in the mainstream sports world...talking we tell boys to toughen up and walk it off while we hung girls saying it's going to be alright. Plus IG girls talking mental health in their captions when I get bored and read the babble. Plus better help commercials on TV everyday.
I think this album is poorly executed...he ain't talented enough to make us think about topics in a different light nor provide compelling perspectives. Kendrick just isn't a compelling enough rapper where you care about his personal thoughts or business moves in his raps like Jay-Z, Kanye, or 1999-2003 Eminem. Like people looked forward to Jay-Z addressing issues and addressing people anytime he dropped a new track from 2001-2014.
Kendrick just missing something that he can't execute beyond catchy hooks and picking good beats. Kendrick could be a hook & bridge guy like Nate Dogg and be successful. His 16s just don't hit for a top draw rap guy over the last 10 years.
