Kodak did his thing on Silent Hill. That is one of the smoothest verses I have heard in a minute, hella wavy just effortless. I went from like a C+ on this album to like a solid B. The cuts you figured would be something you play over and over again are hella lowkey but still have a light playful/party time energy to them. cant describe it. I still think Vince Staples self titled album is my AOTY 2022 so far but Kendrick is fasho in the top 3.

why tho. Mirror is a rebirth track, the end of this phase of therapy. Ending on Mother I Sober and having no conclusion would make no sense.
One reason is I just think it flows the best as a closing track musically. At the end he decides to set free all the trauma suffered by him and his family to start his rebirth.

We hear what I presume is supposed to be Whitney telling him she’s proud & his baby daughter thanking her immediate family, bringing the album cover full circle.

I feel like everything he spit on Mirror was already covered throughout the album. Unless nikkas just liked the response to that one chick that chastised rappers for not speaking out. He pretty much covered that already on Savior which was a superb song

Love this record easily AOTY right now next to Vince’s project …really no one out there in the industry crafting projects as good and cohesively put together as Kendrick ..that fact that he’s able to also intertwine introspective lyricism in a non detached way considering his status is also notable …love how this albums sounds nothing like his previous one as well .. his ability to oscillate between soundscapes/concepts from project to project is elite … hope it won’t be another 5 years for the next joint ..but we eating good off this one

In Dallas, From Cleveland
are people casually listening to this?
Absolutely….

First listen it didn’t hit that hard for me but after a couple more I can’t stop playing it.

Tracks like united in grief, N95, Rich Spirit, Silent Hill, Savior I can listen to at anytime

Count me out, Worldwide Steppers, Mr Morale have grown on me.

Auntie Diaries, Father Time, Mother I sober are top notch storytelling tracks but I can understand people not wanting to hear them over and over.

Crown, Die Hard, Mirror are probably the 3 tracks I like the least. I love the message in Crown and Mirror but the music could be better. And just for selfish reasons I kind of wish he would have addressed leaving TDE in some way even though I kind feel that’s what he’s doing on Mirror

Overall it’s 8.5 to me. Not as good a GKMC, Damn. Pretty much on par with TPAB.

I just love the overall message of I’m not who y’all try to make me out to be. I’m flawed too. I’m not the leader of the pro black movement or none of that, just trying to figure it out and raise my kids.

And yeah, sometimes you just want to listen to some turn up music and just have fun and this isn’t that. But even doing that after listening to this album the normal ratchet or popular music just sounds kind of empty.

For me, Mirror feels a lot like Real on GKMC. Even have similar bounces. And both tracks really serve as end points.

Highest first week of the year, 4 songs in the top 10, one of the best rated albums of the year all while dropping his heaviest project yet after a 4-5 yr hiatus :banderas:. Album speaks for itself but you know dude different when he can really disappear, drop an album and dominate every facet of the game and then disappear again :myman:

Black man taking no losses oh yeah:wow:
