Keep waiting...
Kdot is a storyteller not lyricist.
Some ppl dont understand hip hop, they think its just being lyrical & having quotables.

We need more storytellers, we need more creative content, we need more artists that write their own bars, we need more grafitti in music videos ect...
We need more of these not less.

But none of the above examples I gave would be missed by the majority of yall.
Thats where we are today.
And its important to understand this fact because it highlights the reality that's it's not just drake/future/young thug fans that do not get hip hop, even hip hop heads don't understand hip hop.

Just like MLK, he famous but how many of ya'll know and remember many of his messages and the many things he fought for and where he stood on various stances.
I don't care about story tellers if the stories are not told well enough to give a fukk about.

This is entertainment first and foremost

He's not great at what specifically?
His stories never really punch hard like that.

He's not Freddie Gibbs or YG or even Big Sean. It's an element of not knowing how to entertain that's missing IMO.

People keep wanting to give him credit for his check-the-box rapping style it seems.

It takes more than that to create the real transcendent content.

Even Dom Kennedy gave something that I didn't have when I listened to him.

Nothing more influential than rap music

I merge jazz fusion with the trap music

I mix black soul with some rock and roll

They never box me in, I'm David Blaine-ing all you hoes

And for what its worth this is a shyt premise. A song is about storytelling 1st and 4most. Bars, 1 liners, punchlines ect are optional as they dont equal a good story.
If I want good stories I read good books.

If you're going to my time in MP3 form you better be damn good at it.

Listen to no good parties in LA

WTF is he doing on there? It's a complete lack of awareness

He does have masterful verses.

He also has a lot of not-masterful verses
Enough masterful verses to win a grammy hear and there...enough to have certified legends acknowledge him as the top gunner...enough to win best rap alb...oh yea I forgot these 'white accolades' don't matter

DAMN is the first album I seriously thought he could be on to something.

The first two were too aspirational.

I liked TPAB but in the end it sounded like he wasn't comfortable and came away with an unreleased Outkast album

So why doesn't our opinion matter?

And why do white artists love him so much?

Kendrick doesn't entertain you but Freddie Gibbs and Dom Kennedy do?

Yea this is where the disconnect comes in for me... Imma just chalk it up to "preference" cuz I can't wrap my head around this one lol

The reality is most of Kendrick's lines are not written with enough intention behind them to be memorable.

Take the first 8 bars of "DNA" for example...

"I got, I got, I got, I got
Loyalty, got royalty inside my DNA
Cocaine cornerpiece, got war and piece inside my DNA
I got power, poison, pain and joy inside my DNA
I got hustle though, ambition flow inside my DNA
I was born like this, it's sworn like this, immaculate conception
I transform like this, perform like this, to ? you a new weapon
I don't contemplate, I meditate then off your fukking head
This that put the kids to bed, this that..."

There's no emphasis placed on any of the words for a whole 8 bars, the delivery is monotone and the flow is monotonous. The lines themselves don't really lead into each other, they're separate thoughts and none of them stand out individually. These lines don't add up to anything greater and in fact sound and read like filler.

Most of the time his voice is not this monotone but on this song the lack of flair in his lyrics sticks out.
Right.

He's not a lyricist he is essentially less content dense than artists his fans think he is when he filibusters on the track

There is a mature and visceral self assuredness in their content.

I always feel Kendrick is trying to weasel his way in disingenuously
