LOL Spurs have no leverage here. They either lose Kawhi to their in-conference rival or end up trading him at a loss to the Celtics (the team that has the most assets) or they hold onto him, risk Kawhi sitting out, and lose him for nothing.
Spurs need to take what they can get while making sure the Lakers don't get strong.

Not the full season but J Kidd actually started to sit out games in order to force the Nets hand (I was a Kidd Stan and remember everyone wondering why he didn’t play the Knicks-the team is was known for destroying)

I don't know what the Lakers brehs been telling you.
All I know is that the Celtics have the most trade assets available out of any team, the Spurs reportedly covet those assets, and the Spurs are desperately trying to avoid trading him to the Lakers (understandable).
The Cs might as well do their best to try and get him WITHOUT offering Tatum or Brown. And the Spurs would probably have Tatum or Brown (probably Brown) included if they'd get assurances that Kawhi wouldn't be a 1-year rental.
