The majority of their fanbases aren't White, though.

Receipts?

Anyway, this is damn near impossible to prove. It's not even so much "how much of your fanbase is white", because you can still make Black music with a big White fanbase. shyt... every great Black musician had a big White fanbase if you think about it.

It's more about the 'slant' of the music. You can tell 95% of the time when someone's trying to appease or outright cater their music to cacs. The first thing to go is usually the soul/groove that is so crucial to a lot of Black music.

I agree that Lupe and Mos Def for the most part don't seem to be the "I need cacs to be listening to this at Outback" type.

That's what I'm saying.
Part of Lil B's appeal excludes a lot of traditional Black music listeners, which are also older Black hip-hop rap fans.
His tactics to popularise himself meant that he was going to have to have mostly White fans, similar to Odd Future, and the shock/silly music wasn't going to have many Black fans either.
If you want to sell a lot of records as a Black artist though, you need a lot of White fans, unfortunately. Gangsta rap and alt rock were the rebellious White kids music of choice, hence why it was such a high selling genre in the 90s. :yeshrug:

you're way off the mark. I used those terms 'black and white' cause thats what the average person associates with. Though I know they're not accurate.

My point is Kanye talks about the same shyt people like Greenday or fallout boy do. But gets extra credit for it cause its hip hop. And his main fans wouldn't want to listen to the same content in another genre, or by a rapper who presented himself more as a 'square'

at the most basic level, most genres of music talk about the same topics:skip:Is this "white" content to you?

Like I tod the other poster, I didn't realty mean 'white' or 'black' i used those words cuz that's how most people understand it.

Kanye makes music for people who wan't to be accepted by blacks and get into rap and hip-hop culture but aren't quite ready to make the full jump in.

Which is actually what I think you're saying just worded differently.
