Her mother, who is mentioned in the article, is named Delyna Hawyard (maiden) Diop is obviously the name she adopted when she married Issa's father. Her whole bridge to wrapping issa into that point is the fact that her show didn't encapsulate the "AA experience" and because of that it's somehow delegitimizing it. That is fukking toxic no way around it. Think about it, if Issa was any other race would we be talking about how a romance drama show is delegitimizing the experiences of millions of people?

Furthermore the argument is pointless and vague. What experience is being omitted to the point where it's a slight on the entire ethnic group? How much good does the "legitimate experience" in a work of fiction do for her to attack issa over it? Why are we acting like Issa is the only black person in the media so it's up to her to legitimize us? Why are we acting like the "AA experience" has never and will never be portrayed?
