This isn't really true though. McDonalds and other fast food places raised their costs alongside raising salaries. You can drive by any fast food place right now and see them advertising paying workers over $15 in many places, offering bonuses for managers, etc. They simply passed the costs to consumers.

Consumption has largely been up to oddly high levels, it's not a matter of purchasing being down. People rushed out to get fast food or order Door Dash/Grubhub during the pandemic and that continued into 2022-2024.

They did and then their sales started slowing up. That's why all of these fast food places are bringing back the $5 menus and putting all types of discounts on their apps. I wouldn't advocate eating at these places regardless but they went too far in one direction and now have to scale back after people said "it isn't worth it"..
