Manchin’s reasoning does not matter. Either he falls in line or he doesn’t, and it won’t have anything to do with experience.
Don’t fall for the okey-doke breh.

It’s like Obama choosing a SCOTUS Justice he thought the Republicans would want, as if it would change a single thing.
So when Manchin tanks the whole thing with a thumbs down then what? That will just embarrass the nominee and the President.

2022 just need to move Thomas off the playing field.

:hubie:I don’t mean death
No worries c00n Thomas wife will end up getting her husband removed through her Maga bullshyt… She already paid for patriots I mean rioters transportation to the capital on Jan 6… If it’s found she paid for anything else to those directly involved she’s done and c00n Thomas is done

So McConnell then, as promised, used the power of his position and with all of his GOP colleagues lined up behind him, to essentially change the rules of the Senate — to lower that threshold on Supreme Court nominations to end debate from 60 to 51 votes. The change did not affect the legislative filibuster.

McConnell made a point of order that ending debate on the nomination only requires a simple majority. The motion was not sustained by the chair because Senate rules required 60 votes, so McConnell then made a motion to overturn that ruling. And once that motion passed on a party-line vote, the Gorsuch nomination only needed 51 votes to clear the hurdle.

Funny...

What do you think will happen? He’s in WV. Blocking progress for black people is in their DNA.

It's not going to lead to a Manchin primary or anything, nor should it be expected to.

But it's clear that Democrats are either unwilling to or incapable of either getting Manchin and Sinema on board or shaming them into getting on board. The only option I see for Senate Dems at this point is to do what they did with voting rights: stay united on everything and try to send the message, "No Manchin and Sinema aren't covering for any of us. It really is just these two fukkers holding up everything. Elect more Democrats to make these two irrelevant."

I have a whole host of problems with that: it's probably too little too late, it'll likely backfire and Manchin and Sinema end up with a whole caucus behind them, people won't fall for it and Dems still lose the Senate, etc. But that's the only option I see for them, especially when you look at what Manchin and Sinema are blocking, which is legislation that benefits the working class, minorities and women. Add Manchin potentially blocking a black woman from the court, it'll really start to look like Manchin is :mjpls:.

That said, I doubt we'll even get to that point because I don't expect Manchin to block Biden's SCOTUS pick.

It'd look just as bad regardless of whether its Kruger or Brown-Jackson, so there's that specific point you're neglecting.
If Biden can't pressure them to do what they need to do he deserves the ass-kicking he's going to get in 2024.

I'm not sure what else you want me to answer in this case, Manchin will likely go for Brown-Jackson because there's still a conservative supermajority in the Supreme Court.

Dems better not fumble this.

Clarence Thomas needs to retire his old ass :francis:
How they gonna fumble this? Mitch made it easy for nominees to get through now..

Now that Biden will get a nominee in without delay this will energize Dems to keep the majority on Nov in the house and hopefully add 2 senate seats to negate Manchin and Senima
