It is. But wrenching to longtime DC fans seeing many of your favorite characters getting maimed/murdered like that. Even by DC standards, its gets too dark and hopeless.

I gotta admit, Bruce Timm made Darkseid into a beast, but this film made him into a demonic force of existence.

Yo this movie was so insane.

Probably one of the darkest animated movies I seen since Flashpoint. Seeing main DC characters get killed so easily is insane. Definitely need to watch this a second time. But I would recommend for everyone to watch the other DC animated movies after Flashpoint to really understand the full series of these movies. This was a crazy conclusion but makes a lot of sense. There definitely needs to be a sequel to this movie...

Slaves are completely broken and subservient to him and they are kidnapped from other world's. Life is a living hell and only death is the release.
Apokalips the planet itself occupied a frequency that is between the physical universe and hell
Then darkseid himself.......who knows wtf he is. All you face are avatars that beat down superman level characters but his true form casts a shadow on the multiverse itself and it's death could potentially end everything. He is an essential part of the universe which means getting rid of him for good could be a lose lose situation.
He is an Eldritch abomination that could place the Omega sanction on someone causing them to die over and over for eternity. Each death worse than the last.

This film really shows the (almost) irreversible consequences of an ill-prepared attack against the God of Evil. Something that most other films never show in their main continuity. To think that this isnt an Elseworlds solo film, and the main conclusion to the 7 year animated universe, legit made me feel numb.

Dr. Fate and the New Gods of New Genesis should been involved.
