There is a 5x5 app for iPhone and I think it's one for Android as well. It tracks your weight and increases weight next workout automatically. It also makes adjustments if you fail to complete all 5 sets. Has a built in rest timer too.

5x5 is what finally got me up to 425 on my squat. I just started up agai. This week to Getty and get up to 450.

I think I'm going to take a look at the Starting Strength, 1st I've heard of it.

SL5x5 is designed for people just getting started with lifting

best bet is list your major lifts(reps/sets/final lifted weight) from GVT come time ur making the switch

this is just my opinion, but Rippetoe's Starting Strength is >>>>>> SL5x5 in hindsight.

both are based on increasing maximum strength thresholds in as short a time possible. i just feel SS does it better(its 3x5 instead of 5x5)

as far as rest time, when it comes to strength...id say anywhere between 2-3 minutes to be real. with strength routines shyt like warmups and proper stretching become a real issue, in essence this is equivalent to HS strength routine getting kids ready for big boy athletics(football,wrestling,track,baseball etc)

I got started with Rippetoe SS, in the beginning I could see dudes looking at me like :scusthov::heh::russ:........ it was rough but I got through it

One thing I do regret not doing with SL is going "atg" while squatting. I was doing half squats up until recently...

There's a huge, indescribable difference between half squatting and full squatting :mindblown:

The feeling is :gladbron:

Honestly squatting 2 plates atg, is a respectable weight imo...

Squatting 2 plates atg >>>>> half squatting 4+ plates...

I haven't ATG squat in a good minute...I felt some tear in my hip/groin area when I tried 275lbs. :huhldup:

I've felt that before too. ATG really is just an entirely different animal than parallel,so parallel won't prepare your muscles for ATG. Thats my opinion at least.

I mean I did start eating more... but in little over 4 weeks, I put on 12 pounds...


Yeah I'm eating more but I dont know if its "bad weight" or not.... I hoop religiously and I feel a step quicker to my spots.... this is where Im at now nh
