Liked it a lot, not without flaws, but definitely a very good edition to the Bond series, and it ranks with the best Bonds, easily, at the top of the list too. Thought the opening was done well, but a retread of so many other Bonds, just not needed, would have liked it done a little differently. The cinematagraphy was amazing, like everyone has said the Shangai Hai scenes....and the yacht scenes, wow. Javier Bardem....
at first I thought was very good, creepy, opening scene....thought it went a little too 'Hannibal' in the 'glass cage' scenes, and a little too Bane in the subway chase, that stuff was good for what it was....but I didn't care for it, much. Too overdone, too much like 'Speed' or something. The last act was the strongest, and when Mendes really showed his touch, and his hand, the English countryside and the Moors, the lone car heading into the country was all Mendes, reminded me of 'Road to Perdition'.
Loved the the last 30 min or so, stripped down, i only didn't like the explosions and the helicopter....why do they feel everything needs to be blown up? Imagine those ending scenes, with a barely lit moor, or a slight moonlight, instead of the tired big explosion and fire. And Bardem was at his best at the end too, less latent homosexuality, more desperate, murderous killer.
Can't overstate how good the last part was. So, my complaint, in short would be, I wish 3/4 of the movie could have been like that, instead of more traditional Bond, and an innovative last act. Great supporting actors, scenery, action scenes, overall a really good movie. B+. Some more problems were with the 'flabby & sick' stuff, felt rushed, and some of the courtroom shootout...that whole last scenario bothered me a bit, just felt too superhero movie. 'This was my master plan'...didn't buy any of that, to the level I needed to.
