Just how "great" is Tarantino?

His films are always a tribute or homage to "b, c, or d" list movies with a bunch of sh*tty dialogue. The basis of Tarantino's movies are always the same, only the time period and settings change. A lot of times he and his work is viewed as something "great" or innovative but I don't think there's much to him as a "great" director and writer.

Adam Sandler films aren't meant to be something epic, nor is The Wayans Brothers' movies or Tyler Perry's movies. And these movies aren't, they just are what they are. And I know a lot of those cats do a lot of comedies but a great film is a great film, no matter what the genre of the film is.

My question is why is Tarantino viewed as something of a great director when his films are just the same movie over and over again; homages or tributes to films of the past. What's so creative or innovative about his work?

He's not great. He's the greatest.

There's nothing great about making the same movie over and over again just in a time different era or time period. It doesn't show any growth or profoundness among the director/writer/filmmaker.

Don't get me wrong, I like some of his work such as Reservoir Dogs (which I think is his best film), and KB Vol. 1 & 2. But he shows no real creative when it comes to filmmaking and writing. He's a b level movie maker.

Great at dialogue and visuals, not great at actual plot imo. His stories are mostly remakes, cliches and extremely simple stuff. Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs were out the box but since then...it's been more about the big imagery and dialogue with less focus on depth of plot.

Quentins directing style and writing is his true skill. Hes obviously heavily influenced by Leone, Scorcese and asian film directors. Hes not the most original but the thing about his movies is that you know ur gonna see something outside the common formulas of movie making. Hes gonna add everything he can into one flick and usually ur satisfied cuz qt likes to cover all his bases.

I do think b*stards and django dont have the replay value of pulp fiction and res dogs or even jackie brown. His directing might have gotten better but the entertainment factor has kinda decreased imo.

:russ:

making something more accessible != skill

I like nolan and fincher, but they try to fabricate drama and epicness (especially nolan) in their movies way too much

tarantino defined a style, whether people like it or not. obviously its derived from movies that were kinda cookie cutter. but thats the whole thing, take a tired concept and rework it with twists that were rarely done before.

I mean dude used to be like a video store clerk or somethin :heh: so obviously watched a lot of cookie cutter shytty movies in his life

and please why would anyone compare adam sandler to quentin ? :scusthov:

sandler has no fukking talent. 99% of his movies AND acting is garbage and has zero originality nor value.
