Nah, I'll continue pursuing Education. I've had 4 principles tell me to apply at their school when I get my degree. This one mistake does not define me as a teacher. Just got reckless. Simple.
How are you going to be an educator and can't even spell Principal.

Hell
Yeah I feel you guys in this thread, I'm socially
Aware but I can't front people look at you like you crazy when you start talking about that shyt. Most people really don't
Care outside of money and social benefits.

They hear you dropping science they start thinking you on drugs or something, truth is this socially aware or anything that's you're passionate about has a small interest to most people. nikka think you a bum if you speak on that shyt out of street st the bar or something.

Even the sister who tries to speak on why she doesn't date black men would come across as foreign or bitter or so forth to most sisters out there.

Yes their really are white liberals out there who think the conservative cac is crazy.

That's the thing though, the 1st 2 comments weren't racially inappropriate at all. He didn't even comment on the "german" or "mixed" comment. The white plains joke was the only one he had something to say about because after I explained myself, those first two really weren't bad.

I believe if I had only made the white plains joke, I still would've been fired. There was no "3 strikes".

On a common person standard, there is nothing wrong with those comments.

From a professional standpoint, you were invading a person's, a child at that, personal life and privacy. Given that you are in a position of power and authority to kids, anything questionable you do will be looked at from extreme scrutiny. I have a friend that works for me now but used to be a teacher that lost his job in a similar fashion. The scrutiny comes with that job.

Edit: And yes, the White Plains joke is what did you in, but both of the other comments were out of place too. What if the German girl WASN'T german? What if the Mixed kid was Hispanic instead? Anyone of those kids felt something less than positive and brought it home to their parent and you can believe the parent would hit the roof. Its a real balancing act when dealing with kids. I don't envy anyone with the job but you really gotta know when to pick your shots.

And I'm not trying to lash out at you or anything, but you really need to learn the lesson here because this problem exists in almost all aspects of professional workplaces or business. You just gotta know your environment better.

:snoop:

I'm in school currently to be a teacher so I work as a Substitute Teacher on the side to build my experience.
Gotta call this morning from my job saying they had received some complaints from some parents and teachers from the school I worked at Monday.

:ld:Director ---"Mr. Preacher we have a few complaints of racial comments made by you at White Plains Middle School on Monday. Are you aware of these comments?"

:lupe: Me --- "No sir I cant say I am. I wouldn't knowingly utter racial comments, especially to my students"

Going forward, a simple "No" will suffice. In two sentences you have shown that you are beneath him and that you are willing to accept that you did those things unintentionally.

:ld:Director --- "It was alleged that you asked a young student if she were German or called her German?"

:lupe:Me---- Umm, yes I did. I was calling role and I noticed the young lady had a foreign last name so I asked if she were German and she said yes she was. There was no issue at all. She was actually surprised and ecstatic that I noticed."

You should not have answered that with a yes. That's actually a trick question because if you answered no, he'd suspect that you are lying. In reality, the question is so trivial that if you didn't say it an honest person would answer with ''I don't know." You should have just told him that you can't answer and ask numerous questions throughout the day and that you have no recollection of asking that. You then put him on the back rope by asking him to explain the severity of such a question for future reference.

:ld: Director ---- "Hmm OK. It was also said that you asked a student if she was mixed racially?"

You answer with the truth/lie. Basically you should have said that you were discussing the topic in general and noted the question some people might experience.

:ld: Director ---- "Interesting, the last comment said that you referred to the school as White Plains because there were little to no minority students there. Is this true?"

No (and hope that none of the students recorded what you said).

Basically, you don't incriminate yourself. Even if they make the decision to chop you, you want to create enough work in proving you're wrong to make a settlement the desired means of ending the situation.

You can still be a good/fun teacher just don't bring up religion, politics, race or obviously sex in the workplace.

Always think like this "Anything said in class will go home with these students. They may laugh and tell their parents, whatever I say will possibly be repeated to others."

Remember that anything said in the classroom will be repeated back to the parents through the words of children. Don't say anything that can be misinterpreted either because the child will be relaying the message back to their parents.

So you must choose your words wisely, focus on teaching and try your best to make education fun for the children. Good luck on your future in education.

Yeah. As others have said you got too comfortable in a situation where you were highly expendable. Plus they're children, anyone that has kids or has spent time around them will tell you that they repeat things. Don't say things in-front of children that you don't want repeated. So I doubt you got snitched on. They actually probably liked the jokes and repeated them for laughs and when the adult in the room asked where they got that from... you guessed it.

All that said, this was a good learning experience. Better it happened sooner rather than later
