luther has been one of my favorite shows for awhile now....idris is kinda like the new denzel, its just something bout dude that makes everything better...i dont even like cop shows but this shyt is that bomb cant wait for it to come back, hopefully it gets at least 6 eps
ill be honest there are alot of things i find borderline corny about the show... the yawning thing you guys find cool irked me as being overdone... overall tho its a pretty entertaining show...
the thing i actually think this show does better than any ive ever seen... sopranos included is how it splices together shots from the next episode with the credits and a dope song playing... it really gets you amped up

he is the new denzel... but them hollywood cacs aren't lettin him shine past 3rd billing roles in them ehhh-at-best-1step-up-from-dvd dogshyts like ghost rider, takers, the losers, etc.. despite being the best actor and presence outta anyone in those casts. He only just got moved up to 3rd billing stature in hollywood summer blockbusters (prometheus... and pacific rim this summer) but even then... its still 3rd billing where he's basically a glorified role player.
Not that Denzel fukks with them Will Smith type sci-fi movies anyway but he does get to eat off what he's good at... those relatively small budget dramatic roles like Flight, De ja vu, Outta time, etc.. where he gets to live well within his niche: basically smooching on bad spanish bytches, maintaining a pro black woman aura and letting his acting/charisma carry the film... with the occasional christian undertones for good measure.
So all I really want for Idris, all he really needs, is to get the green light to lead a couple mainstream films that fall within his niche. Thats why a lot of people, including myself, were pissed with the Alex Cross fukkery because, from a far, it looked like that would be the exact type of opening he needed to prove his worth.
in retrospect, it may have been for the best that perry took that hit for Idris. I've heard that the storyline was trash. Still, I wonder if Idris's natural charisma along with Matthew Fox (who i heard was great) couldn't have saved the film.
That's not all though. Idris Elba didn't get the role and a better director was switched out with a lame one.
Movie could have been very different if those things didn't happen and maybe that would have taken Idris out of that 3rd billing bullshyt.

Oh and here's something cool I noticed...."Luther" takes place in the same universe as "The Wire". The character John Munch first appeared on "Homicide: Life on the Street" by David Simon....the character later popped up in season 5 of "The Wire"....in season 1 ep 5 of "Luther" John Munch is mentioned as the American contact for the British SCU.
"Arrested Development" and "X-Files" also take place in the same universe as "Luther" and "The Wire". John Munch appeared on those shows too.
