I don't think Covid will play into things for a base that doesn't give a shyt about it. Covid will hopefully be long gone by then and the GOP will forget it existed.

Who are the likely republican nominees that you think would be hammering others about Covid? That whole party and its base was complicit in denying Covid in the beginning, not mandating masks or shut downs, and those who didn't explicitly oppose measures surely didn't step to the forefront to champion science based responses to covid.

you can't answer the question because you know Covid response is not a sparkplug issue for that party - look at this year while we're in it, Trump wasn't penalized by republican voters and politicians for his shyt handling of this, let alone 3 years from now.

You know why I don't count him out? Imagine a scenario in which covid basically goes away by 2022. By the time 2023 rolls around the ppl who will vote based on how politicians handled covid will probably never vote for him anyways. And I guarantee you that once covid is sort of in the rear view mirror there will be MANY, not just Republicans who will Monday morning quarterback the entire response. "Was it really necessary to shut down etc?" That is just how we roll as a nation. That will allow ppl like DeSantis to be able to say "I was just trying to save the economy blah blah blah." We reelected Bush in 2004 even though the entire country thought he was an idiot and knew he dragged us into an unnecessary war. Trump got within a CPL hundred thousand votes of reelection even with covid and everything else. DeSantis is one of the few guys out there that is palatable to the trump wing AND from a state that is a must win.

And whatever faux-populist is running in 2024 would point out that he did in a way that didn't keep working class families safe because his cases and deaths were so high and they got caught on multiple occasions lying and suppressing the true numbers.
And DeSantis' approval rating is shyt right now, so even his own constituents don't buy that.

you don’t understand Republican politics do you? Applying general election common sense to the Republican primary doesn’t make sense.
The best play is to talk about how you didn’t lock down and didn’t force any mask mandates to infringe on peoples freedoms. Republicans are the least empathetic people, they could care less how many ppl died of covid just like they do now. In 2023, they’ll care even less.
