Jonathan Gresham doesn't figure into AEW/ROH creative plans as of now after asking for his release.

Fightful Select reported Sunday that Gresham asked for his release from the company. The situation was confirmed by both sides as "getting heated" privately. However, we were told from the AEW side of things, they were happy with how the match between Gresham and Claudio Castagnoli came off, and many respected the professionalism of him continuing with the match. Despite the heated nature of the conversation, it didn't appear that any bridges were burned. We also have yet to get a confirmation that a release was granted.

We've learned that there was interest from "at least three companies" before Gresham ended up signing with AEW/ROH, but it was also said that his immediate feelings were that he was done with wrestling for a while. Many of his co-workers believe that Gresham loves wrestling too much for that to be a reality, however.

Basically, they know he's in his feelings.

I'm not even giving him the benefit of the doubt that this is a posturing act.

Damn, y'all aren't event trying to understand where he's coming from. It's crazy how different the energy is when it's someone airing their grievance over their mistreatment from Tony Khan and in any other instance.

It's pretty well known that TK has communication issues based on the Big Swole situation and what Marko Stunt & Janela have also said. Not to mention he shouldn't be holding ROH stand-alone events and booking angles without an actual plan for the promotion.

With that said, Gresham should have had the common sense to know that with new owners come new visions for the product, especially when they had Deonna Purazzo show up on Dynamite to drop the title to Mercedes Martinez. Even the promo itself from Deonna hyping that match was made to look bush league.

Only reason his midget ass ever even held the ROH Championship is because Bandido got COVID and most of the good talent in ROH had already bolted for AEW or NXT/WWE
IIRC Tony Khan wanted Bandido, but Bandido didn't take his offer twice, so basically TK settled with Gresham. What's fukked up about the whole situation is that outside of Deonna, who won the ROH Women's title from Roxanne FKA Rok-C, Gresham proudly rep ROH everywhere he went and was the face of the company, so being ignored like that and being told information last minute well get to anyone.

According to several sources, Gresham was very upset when told the planned outcome of his match, which saw him lose the ROH title to Claudio Castagnoli in under 11 minutes in the opening bout of the PPV. As originally reported by Fightful.com, Gresham had words with AEW & ROH owner Tony Khan, which one person described to PWInsider.com as "ugly and unprofessional."

One version of the story making the rounds is that Gresham "cursed out" Khan. Another story talents are sharing includes that Gresham used his ranking in the Pro Wrestling Illustrated magazine PWI 500 list as an argument as to why he should be presented better.
