Not gonna happen overnight, nor will they abandon currently successful movies like wonder woman and aquaman, but they are clearly moving towards stand alone movies that are contained in their own universe.

You will see more movies like joker that stand on their own, and less movies that share a universe going forward. Eventually the shared universe will be phased out entirely unless some miracle happens and the public perception of DC movies changes.


I'll even go as far as to say the next batman movies will not be apart of the DCEU. Superman might not get another movie for a while. Wonder woman will be part of the DCEU but will make no mention of any of the other movies, which is probably why they are setting it in the past and not the present.

LOL they just went and got themselves a "Kevin Feige" to try and clean up the DCEU project. The batman movies seem like they're going to be the centerpiece and he'll be taking batflecks place in the JL reboot.

I doubt the director or Phoenix want to franchise it out with what they put out, but I'm positive they'll get an offer of some sort because they're going to need some sort of Joker going forward.

Even if they were interested in doing more movies with this current Joker, he's already old, the age gap would be quite a bit wide by the time Bruce is grown up and wearing the cowl.

How you get around that is, let the Joker who just had his origin told be the inspiration for a movement that spawns a modern day Joker.
