He did a good job with actually coming across like a casual wrestling fan whilst ripping McMahon to pieces. Doubt if this will get any traction though... people have tried before... sadly the fans are generally happier to pat themselves on the back for a GoFundMe effort after someone's broken down than get involved in anything that felt even remotely pinko commie socialist like workers rights.

Lowkey surprised he went for Roman so hard given the last few months, but :yeshrug:

its interesting cause john's deep dives often goes viral and leads to conversation/change
the last major one he did was on robo-dialing and the next day politiicans were discussing new legislation and phone companies were stepping up

and its no coincidence he dropped this a week before wrestlmania...but it seems this story really hasnt gotten much traction with the mainstream.
i guess wrestling is still too niche to have a crossover impact...deep down i think non-fans consider all carnies that knew what they signed up for

John Oliver has no reach or real audience.

Nothing he says has any real impact

Yet, there's something called the John Oliver effect. This article was written in 2015. There are even more examples.

Well shyt maybe I'm wrong lol

Case of me talking out of my ass thought he was cancelled for some reason for low ratings

the low end. southside chi
Lol at the angry neckbeards and Republicans upset in here.

The full video is great, it's a service to the wrestlers first and foremost and shines a light on WWE's bullshyt "independent contractor" scam that they're somehow still getting away with in 2019.

The chart was fukked up

Hitgoat spoke facts with conviction as usual.

It definitely makes Vince look like a piece of shyt, which he obviously is. That interview was equal parts hilarious and cringey.

Oliver doesnt bury WWE entirely because he pauses every couple minutes to say how awesome wrestling is and he peppers entertaining clips throughout the whole thing.

I dont think there will be any Mania chants for changes like he tried to inspire, though. Mostly because theres no easy, catchy chant that people can all get behind and communicate that WWE should provide healthcare and time off to the people the company uses to exist and make billions.
joey styles losing his mind in that foley match always takes me out.
good clip to choose

Segment was hilarious and on point.

That zookeeper baboon joke had me :deadmanny:

Funny shyt is years ago I used to wonder how the WWF was allowed to keep it's name when the World Wildlife Fund used to run their commercials back in the day, so the name change never really surprised me like that.

sorry, dweeb didn't mean to throw you off of a 2003 ppv watch

I don't even know what you're talking about, but you said you don't listen or watch him, clearly indicating you didn't watch that very factual vid. And if that is the case, maybe you should have, or else you wouldn't be coming across as the bratty little bytch you normally are. There were 100% facts in that vid, but WWE-stans like yourself tend to avoid that.

I think one of the worst things to happen in terms of holding WWE and the pro wrestling world accountable is how many writers/reporters/journalists/media personalties in the current media landscape were fans growing up in the 90s and 80s and are marks today that pick and chose their outrage, and have honestly enabled this carny shyt to be accepted

How many media personalties do you have on your twitter timeline that you follow for their writing in music or sports that you find out watch WWE regularly now cause of the network and are always quick to denounce big corporate companies or point systematic racism and sexism in institutes of business and entertainment/sport like the NFL or Hollywood but are very slow to do so with WWE? Cause thats the twitter wave. How many cancel celebs cause of their political affilation but with Vince right there they go silent?

They would rather angle to have their site talk about WWE (Bleacher Report, ESPN, SI) because they know marks frequent the internet and it gives them traffic and its always trending on twitter and does views on Youtube and they only occasionally slap them on the wrist for Saudi Arabia or Hulk Hogan but never really still have their foot on their necks. WWE is reactive to these things and they've done things like the women's evolution to seem progressive but its transparent and those media types would get at any other company who did such a thing. They're more likely to go at Meltzer who's done more to give info about the business than the company itself because they wanna be in the good graces or whatever

People like Ryan Satin, Peter Rosenberg, Sam Roberts, Kaz and maybe worst of all the fans themselves have helped keep this bullshyt afloat because they cant escape their childhood and thus enabling companies to keep doing business with them where the talent themselves wont see any royalties from those deals is the worst aspect. They'll go after John Oliver, or Dave Meltzer (who's actually defended WWE slightly in this story) and reputable reporting and label them comedians and gossip columnists because they dont like the story or that upsets their conscious

Okay maybe this is a long winded rant but I just felt that way after listening to Ryan Satin make excuses for WWE and try to discredit John Oliver on his show and hes all about journalism integrity , the fukking former TMZ reporter:francis:

real talk
To this day to this day…WWE hasn’t completely gotten behind wrestlers of color (Asuka, Sasha, Nak, etc). Every couple of years it’s a small blimp but then goes away.

The whole Kofi storyline is skirting around the issue without really addressing the elephant in the room. When its all said and done we (yes WE) are willing to turn a blind eye because we enjoy(ed) the product.

Never thought I’d agree with Ryback but he makes a good point. WWE has done a good job at either instilling fear into the wrestlers or brainwashing them. Now you have some that speak out but never the main eventers. They’re working these wrestlers like dogs and holding these wrestlers hostage even though they’re “Independent Contractors”.

Never forget the backlash from last year’s Moolah Battle Royal that originated from @TheGreatShowtime’s topic on her, before it got co-opted by Reddit cacs and various other sites. The industry and the vast majority of the fan base are complicit with how things are and very few, if anyone, is pushing for any sort of actual change. I’d dare say we’re the only vocal fan base talking about this issue or calling for a change, atleast with any sort of sincerity.
