He's not even talking about anyone in particular lol, he's quoting Jay-Z and just wanna be competitive, he wanna take the crown of the east coast.........

Yea. Which kinda mirrors the Control thing where Kendrick was quoting Kurupt. It's real hip hop shyt and unfortunately the convos are always hijacked by (mainly white) rap blog/social media presences that want to run with "DISS TRACK" narratives instead of viewing this shyt as sport. Joey sparring. Track is whatever but I like the hunger.

I listened to Pro Era growing up and Joey was suppose to be bigger than what he is now. Idk what happened cause he definitely one of the best rappers from the east coast

I said in another thread that Joey should be for New York what Kendrick is to LA - I’m not from NY though so I don’t know the politics that comes with that. In terms of rapping ability, he’s pound for pound the best rapper in NY but he seems to want be in the artsy lane being a creative, acting and being into fashion.

When he dropped this in 2012 as a 16 year old I thought he was going straight to the top but I don’t know if he’s hungry enough to want to claim best in NY.

NY is competitive so that would be a position he would had have to fight for consistently whereas in LA, every rapper pretty much submits to the position that Kendrick is the best. A lot of that I think is to do with the team Kendrick had around him at TDE though - even the rappers on the label basically submit to that same position. Joey doesn’t have the luxury of a TDE for him to really make that push on the East. Guess he’s enjoying his life though which is probably enough for him.

joey was the only one who dropped a good response to control:yeshrug:

would be a really good battle. Has the possibility of being what fold & dot couldve been
In terms of pure rapping ability, I think he would give Kendrick problems but rapping ability wasn’t what won Kendrick his battle last year. If anything, the diss tracks were at the lower end of his catalogue purely from a rapping standpoint.

No diss here lol...thats a Jay bar. He clearly wants New York and the whole east coast to step their game up, because he knows right now there's nobody dope on the east. Can't be mad at that, NY and the East in general clearly fell off the map when it comes to rapping.

I don't see anybody that could help though, Nas is still the only good rapper from that region.

The song is mediocre. Joey still doesn't understand the basics, you can't pull that Y.L. scheme on that kind of beat.

what conflict doe? he's just trying to invite East coast rappers to step their game up.

I wish it was a diss, so we could get new music, but there's nothing. Just a Hov line.

But that should’ve been the case all of last year, I guess we might see it now but still.

I don't expect the same response to Joey as to what happened this spring/summer, but I wouldn't be surprised if Kendrick gave him a few bars on a future feature (no pun intended) or upcoming project.

Joey being clever, probably knew the west coast line would trend somewhat because majority of twitter/x won't know it's actually a Jay bar.

I don't see it as a diss either, Joey just trying to represent N.Y since West Coast was getting all the love last year.

Prefer Joey's music by a considerable margin compared to K.Dot, but if this battle ever happened...K.Dot get's him.

Joey new song wasn't all that too.
