I didn't have him as the GOAT at 5. :ld:

his best SB performances to me were the ones he lost. Gained a shytload of respect for him after the 1st Giants one (homie took a Blacked.com pounding from the Giants D-Line and kept getting up and made no excuses). The Eagles loss one impressed me as well. The 6th is where I tipped my hat. I knew he'd get one in Tampa. Team was loaded on offense.

He was the GOAT by 2015 at the latest. Strong argument after 2010 as well. No question, no debate.

You picking Brady over Mahomes?

As of now? Yes.

However, Mahomes has the potential and time to become the GOAT. He will not need seven Super Bowl rings to do so. It will take time, but he is the one QB playing today that could become the GOAT.

I love this riveting box score based analysis :russ::dead:

Also, every time box score nostalgists go to dikkride Marino, they pretend like he was playing in the Big 8 or something against everyone running the Wing-T. He was NOT the only hyper-productive QB before ESPN2.

The absolute fact is - the passing game opened up league wide in the late 70's after Dan Fouts and the Croyell offense got going. In the early 80's you had randoms like Bill Kinney go off for a 4000 yard season after John Makovich got there. Brian Sipe won the MVP lighting it up in the early 80's. Jay Shroeder, Neil Lomax, Phil Simms etc - the early 80's were pass heavy in the NFL. Marino stood out amongst that crop, but the years of people who don't know anything about football just lying about the league he was in is out of fukking control.

The Dolphins/Marino were the only ones to stick to that all-out passing game afterwards - and they got dominated because of it. The Bills and Jim Kelly were basically running the father of a no-huddle, spread offense the same time.

And why did the Dolphins keep on playing this way? Dan Marino.

If you want a way to think about Marino? Think about the way people talk about Dame Lillard now.

Yes he is supremely talented - but there's always a few crucial things people leave out to explain why he didn't win.

It's like someone heard me :lolbron:

Why are you excusing away 5 ints? Dude had Jefferson, Joiner and Winslow and threw 5 ints. Before they got rid of Fred Dean, that had a respectable defense. Not winning when your QB throws 5 interceptions, though..
That was one of biggest chokes in nfl history that people don’t talk about
There is so much more to playing QB though than arm talent. Ability to read defenses, decision making, ability to manipulate defenses and create openings amongst other things. Marino had a crazy combination of a quick release, arm strength, and accuracy but even with all that doesn't necessarily make him the GOAT QB. We saw with Brett Favre his bad decision making do him in way too often.

Marino is like Rodgers in that eye test wise they are absolutely amazing but when looking at their playoff failures a lot of times it came down to the offense that got them as far as they did eventually fizzled out in the playoffs.

It's easy to look at highlight tapes and declare someone the GOAT but it's the stuff they do between the highlights that really defines them.
Let’s keep it all the way real, when football fans talk about QB “talent” 99% of it is who can throw the ball furthest :mjlol:

Accuracy, decision making under pressure, reading defenses, making adjustments and the line of scrimmage? Nah but what about that 70 yard TD pass against blown coverage in a random regular season game :mjlol::mjlol:

I think being the best > being the greatest in this situation

Best is skill driven, Greatest is narrative driven (and often based on team level accomplishments)

Do you agree that productivity results from skill? And stop acting like narratives cant form a consensus on your skill, also. Case in point, Emmitt Smith. Emmitt Smith is one of the best players I have ever seen on film, but the perception is by many is that he is not dynamic and that je was the product of a.dominant line.

Which one? The seam to Keith Jackson?
Why do you feel the need someone who feels Marino has better arm talent to breed? Nobody owes you anything. people see it and know it. You got a problem with it.

You feel better Brady is better. That’s OK. Nobody’s bothering you about that. But you stay being bothered about people feeling otherwise :mjpls:

Here’s the part where you come up with some dismissive labeling.

What is this reply for? I just asked you what throw you were referring to. There was no hidden motive to it. All that other shyt is uncalled for. I am way beyond that. We already had our debate and I do not care to reengage in it. Everytime I ask you about football, it is not Brady related. I watched football long before I knew who he was and I will be watching long after he retires.
