I understand that, but he had already set the precedent for himself. Why did he dip so visibly? Did he lose skill? Did the league catch up? What was it??

Maybe he had a once in a generational year? who knows. he did throw for 44 TD's two years later. I mean thats not falling off at all.

Hes the only QB in his era with over 4k yards in a season. And he did it 5 times. He fell off after his 1992 season.

I get it. Brady is your boy.

But no….Marino fans dont just look at a single year. They look at ability as well.

Best QB Ive ever seen throw a football.
Brady has nothing to do with this. I was a Marino fan too. I damn near cried his last game at Jacksonville because I was hoping that he can make a Cinderella SB run. You can say that. Steph Curry is the best Ive ever seen shoot a basketball. Doesnt make him the GOAT. Im not gonna disagree with what you said, nor attempt to change your mind..but there are plenty of QBs who have superior accolades and are his equal in terms of the eye test.

I mean you comparing a QB from the 80's/90's. Nobody was better than him during his era. You can argue Montana but i mean with the teams he was on, Marino would have rings as well.

Of course he didnt physically look different, but his production regressed big time. Dont act like stats dont matter. Ppl thought Brady and Rodgers were done in 2019. Based on what? Not their physical capability, but their reduction in stats.

Im not comparing stats; though..thats foolish. Im comparing strictly accolades/eye test.

The league adjusted, but Shula did not adjust with it. Dan caught the league off guard, but teams eventually knew the Fish were one dimensional. the bad RB talent only added to it.

Yes it does….if it didnt, you wouldn’t have responded saying “Marino fans only see… “. :childplease:

Marino was just the most precision passer the league as ever seen. He made impossible throws.

Ive watched this game for close to 40 years. Ive never seen anything like him.

Well if eye test is what u want then he passes that with flying colors. How he aint in your top 3 off eye test alone is beyond me.

You also failed to mention that after his 48 td seasons, he went down to 30.

Yup. Just like how Rodgers turned human after his 2011 season. KC exposed MM's offense and everything went to shyt since then and they never adjusted or re-invent anything new. They just had Rodgers out there playing street ball.

There's a reason why QBs like Marino and Rodgers never won any, or in Rodgers case, one ring. The team that surrounded them relied heavily on them. From o-lines to shytty RB's and old stale offenses being ran.
