Ive been around dudes way older than you, G..they watched Marinos whol careers as adults. He is not revered like that by any of them..my father and uncles were born in Pittsburgh and he doesnt get thst adoration and admiration that you think he does.

Like I said though, obvious WYSIATI biases factor into that. Why would you expect the feelings of random fans of the time to have any bearing on how good a player really was?

But they are acting like their word is gospel. And ppl who were there would vouch for it. Well I know ppl close to the situation, who dont fell that way. Do they speak for the entire football world?..of course not. The facts are the facts, he peaked early and had like one 30 td season his last 12 years. He won MVP in his 2nd year, yet apparently he was the Gretzky/Bonds of the NFL. Outside of that 84-88 stretch, was he ever close to being the best?? He was a shyt athlete(87 rush yards, 9 tds for a career), his "arm talent"(cheesy ass ESPN terms) has been surpassed, many are more decorated(not stats, accolades). So why should be always hold this mythical spot like he achieved something unsurpassable?

Really no reason for anyone here to worship him. Of course he gets a :salute: for being the hometown kid who played and won at Pitt but he never played for the Steelers. On top of that he had a direct hand in keeping the Steelers from going to the SB in 84. If only we drafted him instead of Gabe Rivera:francis:

The legend of Dan Marino :russ:

People talk as if he was some god like unicorn at the QB position. Had one amazing season early on and the way people talk, you would think we never saw a talent like that again.

You are literally watching a QB play right now that is better than Marino at ALL facets of the game and surpassed Marinos career accolades by his 3rd year in the league. Crazy shyt.

This is once again a case of being brainwashed to believe old = better
Dan Marino in his era was absolutely a unicorn at QB. Its too bad Emmit didnt join miami or else Dans legacy would be different

Imagine if today there was a QB who both his head coaches won multiple titles without him but he couldn’t win with those coaches. He would get crucified

Marino is my personal GOAT, even ringless. Dude was just let down by the constructed teams, IMO. You can only lean on a guy so much in football before you tune up[ the rest of the team.

The game passed Shula by the mid 80s. Jimmy Johnson was not going to Herschel Walker trade replicate what he experienced in Dallas.

Anyone crucifying Dan Marino as if he held those two coaches back from winning it all would be stupid :russ:
