Joe Manchin: I won’t vote for For The People Act or Weaken/Eliminate Filibuster!

Is the Democrats’ legislative agenda finished in the Biden era?

America might have the most corrupt elected officials in the world.

That’s not hyperbolic either. Listen to that Manchin call and it’s nothing but unethical stuff that’s legal because the criminals institutionalized it all. And then think about how many other elected officials are on similar calls.

For all the complaints we have here, believe me, it is much, much worse in many other places. Just blatant "bribe me and I'll do my job" shyt.

But that's overshadowed by the fact we're the imperial war machine providing weapons to lunatics the world over when we're not busy killing brown people ourselves.

At least in other countries, it’s a paper bag with stacks of cash, and people move to do dirt. They get caught in in developing countries, and their bloodline gets removed from Earth.

In America, our corruption is institutionalized. And if they do something brazen, it’s kinda shrugged off depending on where they are on the power charts. In a lot of ways, that is worse.

Where's that leading us in the future? Is there any possibility for a change to that status quo? And if so, what do you think it looks like?

It should have obvious from the beginning that Manchin was going to collude with McConnell and Republicans, yet you still had some people on here believing otherwise. I called it the moment Mitch gave up on winning those two GA seats.

Just always keep in mind Americans voted for them. The problem starts there.

I don't think Manchin is colluding with anyone. He's focused on one thing: keeping his seat in a red state Trump won by damn near 40 points. He couldn't care less about voting rights because it doesn't impact the (white) people he's concerned about in his state, so why stick his neck out.

Voting rights won't be addressed as long as he's the kingmaker. It's obvious and I wish democrats would simply admit that instead of this dumb dog and pony show about "fighting" and "not giving up." It's not happening, the end.

Only thing democrats can do is focus on things they CAN do with Manchin, and hope those things result in dems keeping the house and gaining enough seats in the senate to strip Manchin of his power. That's it. We're about a week away from Biden and democrats being able to walk away from the bullshyt bipartisan infrastructure negotiations and put Manchin to the test. Here's a boat load of money for West Virginia...get in line and vote for this bill. I'm sure he'll wave his dikk around and nuke portions of the bill, and I'm fine with that...as long as the end result is a bill over 1T. Create jobs, build shyt, put your name on shyt, maybe sneak Bernie's Medicare expansion in there...and pray to god that's enough to avoid a blood bath next year at the polls.

Half of America can't even be bothered voting. Keep that in mind to. The system is so bad people think it is futile to participate.
Can you really blame them at this point, I’m going to voting third party going forward for the most part, but we also don’t know how these non voters would actually vote, or their reasons why. I suspect a lot of it is having no interest in politics, busy working just to survive, not having time to vote or simply not giving a fukk either way. I would be interested in knowing the specific reasons of the huge amount of non voters.

This is another reason why term limits don’t necessarily work. Politicians don’t have any incentive to solve long term problems or address long term issues. From the moment they get in office all they need to focus on is pandering to their base and doing whatever necessary in the short term to keep their seat at the table of power.
